I missed the game due to having plans for the afternoon, and I don't have time at the moment to watch the replay or to extensively analyze the numbers. But it does appear that I was wrong about some things the team showed some things that it had previously not demonstrated. I will have to recalibrate expectations in certain areas.

I'm beyond thrilled. Hell I don't care if Valpo had to travel from Mars this morning. We beat a legitimate team. Let's enjoy it and then hope our guys can build on this and sustain it! This.

Post game comments from Whitford IU-KComment about depth. ValpoRecognized bad shots at end, but really liked that we were playing to win not to just hold on.

Ok, so let's say there's this hypothetical team....team X. Team X has the following early season record, with national ranking of opponent and result:
#303 L #311 W #270 W #216 L #284 W
So, team X, might be logically expected to be somewhere in the 200's. Furthermore, Team X plays in a conference of teams ranked from the 55 to 249, with a large group of median-level teams around the 150's. A logical expectation would be that team X will finish towards the bottom of their conference...eh?
Then you hear team X beat #27.
A logical person might go...."What?"
Taken as a whole, it's a baffling series of results that doesn't effectively or unambiguously support anyone's preseason expectations, wuless maybe that their preseason expectations were for an up and down team. I'm certainly recalibrating my pre-Valpo expectations and evaluations. Yes, I am moving them upwards but also widening the variance.

I was trying to think when was the last time we beat a team ranked as high as Valpo. I drew a total blank, unless it was Maui. Anyone?

We beat Butler 4 years a go when we had Jarrod Jones , not sure what they were ranked but it a hell of a win ... Stevens was still coaching and they had also had Andrew Smith from their two final game teams ...

Yes I remember the game. A bit of a surprise to remember one where Bill Ball seemed to work. Bill Ball worked-sort ofThe article mentions Butler was in a three game losing streak. Jones played one of his best games, showed he had a lot of talent, and giving us some hope we maybe could be a good team riding that horse. We started fast, forced Butler to catch up. They shot very poorly in first half. OK, give our D some credit. Slow down game made it hard to catch up...Still, I hate that offense even when it worked.

I'm pretty sure that Butler then was not ranked as high then as Valpo is now. I think that was a season right after they lost a ton of players. I remember that I sort of expected to win and I would never have expected a Taylor team to beat a top 30 opponent.

Butler was not a game I have in my good memory book. Better than some of the dreary losses. A good win, sure. But, I don't see how they could have been ranked 22 at that time.
We really should have been in that game, maybe not favorites on the road or anything, but with Jones and Randy, this was a year we were supposed to be pretty good, and getting better. We saw how that all worked out...
The Valpo game was a kind of unexpected shot in the arm, hope it wakes up a few fans and helps build some enthusiasm. I know I felt better leaving Worthen than I have in many years. You not only saw a fast paced entertaining game, with some good players, good entertainment, but saw a lot of good players for Ball State get a reward for some very hard work. Lots of feel good, even though it is hardly proof we are over the hump.
This season has to deliver more good games. The Program could start to seriously be considered back in business if we do. We may be exceeding expectations a bit already with player development and coaching.

Fair enough....some people's expectations...but not the kids!! Yeah, what is scary is you might not just be right, but against all the odds quoted by naysayers earlier in the year, you might have understated the case. Don't let your head get too big, but here's a site that says that is so: 50% of the time 15-19 winsAccording to the simulation only about 15% of the time do you lose the bet, and 35% of the time the General's and others have their mind blown when the Card's win 20 games. Not only that but all those predictions ignore any tournament wins, including what could be a quite possibly winnable first round game, barring any real disaster. I admit to enough skepticism to be a little surprised any computer would agree with your optimism.
