And if the cops had thrown me on the ground and arrested for me ripping down those goals posts I would have deserved it

True enough if strict logic applied.
But should the University have done that is another question.

Even though I was as drunk as a Monkey I can clearly remember talking with my friends about the possibility of being arrested.. We also decided very quickly that it was a risk worth taking. Should they have arrested who knows not our call but I can say I think we expected at least a couple of us to go to jail. I also had lots of friends arrested for Drugs/Dui's/underage etc.. One of them I witnessed resist and he got roughed up by the cops pretty good that night. We stood there and laughed at him for being a dumb ass. When we bailed him out the next day we had the typical aftermath conversation. We were making fun of him for resisting and getting his ass kicked. His response was yea I probably should not have done that. His parents response was "good I hope he learned his lesson" He went on to earn his Masters from Notre Dame and if I called him right now he say he totally deserved it.

and is it really strict logic or just common sense
I also have another question..
Can we all just load up and go take over the alumni center tonight at midnight.. Call it the overthepylon center, Spray paint charlie cardinal all over the place. That would be fine as long as its a peaceful protest right? We would not or should not get in any trouble right?

I don't think the parallel is quite there.
Surely whether we let loose the dogs on protest, whether peaceful or not, has to factor in the reasons for the protest and the practical consequence of loosing the dogs. As well as the practical consequence of not acting quickly and forcibly. It is not an ethical issue as much as a practical policing problem.
Of course in both cases the action of the protestors is clearly wrong when it involves property damage. But the question may be in some sense how wrong, or how sympathetic the protestors are in the eyes of the public. More than that whether the reaction to the protest creates greater practical problem than not reacting. Cost benefit analysis.
Besides in the Great Alumni Center Riot, nobody might notice because the Alumni Center is closed and the maintenance people are napping over in the Business Building, won't be there until Sunday night to clean up. They would be pissed at us, there is the danger of violence, justifiable violence.
But, even if somebody came in tomorrow we'd probably all be drunk and hung over by the time the lone campus cop on duty came in and quelled the protest. Not much potential for death, further social unrest, or violent resistance. Much different policing problem.

Well I think the parallel is very real. For years we have great ideas on how to fix almost every issue involving BSU Athletics yet no one is have ever listened to us.. Its our time now we need to be heard..
Ok I am having a bit of fun here so before anyone says I am being insensitive. None of this is about George Floyd. What ever is going on in Seattle is not about George Floyd people may be hiding behind George Floyd but a group saw an opportunity and took it. Im calling it now if someone does not stop it soon your going to see things like this popping up all over the place. I have no problem saying this either if anyone thinks "CHaz" is a good idea then I have to call you something derogatory.

You know I just read their lists of demands and I got to thinking.. To Hell with it let them have all of that but only inside "Chaz" I say we build a 20 ft high fence around "chaz" and let them do as they please. They can live in their own Utopian Chaz there is only 1 stipulation. Every thing must be filmed and once you enter "Chaz" you may never leave. Reality TV at its finest "The rise and fall of Chaz"

This is a very strange and very Seattle event. The protestors must have some organization, but I am not sure how they intend to negotiate or whether they actually have much control over the whole event. In the meantime it is a big street fair with lots of people involved who are not affiliated with any organization, from street vendors to musicians to casual passerby curiosity seekers. It is in many ways more similar to the goal post case than the other George Floyd protests or the after mob to the protests we have seen. More pot than beer in this case I suppose. In any case sending in armed troops and tear gassing everyone including not just the really guilty but a lot of people who are surely not guilty of much other than maybe pot smoking stupidity, that doesn't seem to be the answer. Arresting the organizers and closing down the carnival which is running a day or two overtime seems to be in order though. I am certain they expect that and expect to make a political statement during the process. In a way what the authorities are doing not taking it deadly seriously may be the best course, certainly not treating it like Tiananmen Square is important and takes a lot of wind out of any real danger.
The other parallel I can think of is Chicago in '68. But this is not very much like that either. I was actually in Chicago in '68 just before joining the Army and this does not feel like that impassioned pent up frustration with the war, the MLK assassination, Bobby Kennedy being assassinated, a split party convention, the radical SDS organizers who espoused violence.
This was a time where the Democrats had the South in the fold and you had a severe split in the party, on race and on the war. The convention was the focus. there is a slight comparison with the left versus the right in the Democrat party, but the split was much more severe.
For the life of me I do not see the focus here at all. It is Seattle not Chicago, no national convention to focus and intensify events, different demographic, very different politics, different cities. Trump sees some value in busting heads and pleasing his base, but that would cast Trump as Mayor Daly and it really didn't work very well for him.
The war had polarized the country then. I guess we could see Joe Biden cast as Hubert Humphrey versus Nixon?

They are an armed force that have been shaking down businesses for protection money. Attacking police or anyone who attempts to stand up to them. Forcing people to show ID to go to their home or business. Essentially, they have seceded.
Armed insurrection is treason, and should be dealt with. Harshly and quickly.
Their reasons are irrelevant.

The police in Seattle have found no evidence of businesses being extorted. Business organizations are indicating they’ve received no reports of extortion. It’s a right wing talking point that has yet to be officially substantiated. No documented reports.

“We’ve heard, anecdotally, reports of citizens and businesses being asked to pay a fee to operate within this area. This is the crime of extortion. If anyone has been subjected to this, we need them to call 911,” Assistant Chief of Police Deanna Nollette said on Wednesday.
