The liberal media and the democrats have been so effective with their hoax and scare tactics that the Republican gov’s of Texas and Florida have suddenly bought into the hysteria.....
Denial ain’t just a river in Egypt.
But our president has the best solution, just do less testing! (If this virus isn’t a big deal, why would his campaign make anyone attending his totally unnecessary rallies sign a waiver absolving the campaign of any liability for Covid related illness?) Hey folks, nothing to worry about, but, if you could just sign right here.....
That family in Texas that got 18 people Covid from a surprise birthday party? I’m sure they didn’t think it was a big deal either. Or the 20 In a family in California who got it and just lost their dad to it. It spreads like wildfire. We as a country have failed to respect it, refuse to wear masks, refuse not to get in large gatherings. The response has been haphazard and wildly inconsistent from state to state and the federal response has been? And now Texas, Florida, and Arizona are paying for it. It’s the young people who are getting it and that’s ok?! They’ll be fine? Maybe for most of them, but they have family, coworkers, friends, people they don’t know etc they spread it to and all of a sudden the more vulnerable are dying and you have cluster outbreaks. Which is exactly what we’re seeing.
Don’t take it seriously and it bites you in the ass. And yes, I know one person who has died and one in the hospital. It has now invaded my mother’s retirement home and is spreading quickly, even though the staff have worked their asses off trying to protect. No one has been allowed to visit since March. Staff are temperature and symptom checked every day before being allowed in. And it still got in. And double figures have it. Praying the ones with it who have survived won’t get too sick. And that it doesn’t come for my mother.
My daughter is a respiratory therapist. She’s seen what it can do to people. And there’s been no rhyme or reason to it.

Yeah, it’s fake and no big deal and exaggerated and is a ploy to harm trump, but he sure is spending a lot of time and money protecting himself from it! (Other than that stupid mask thing).
How the Eff has wearing a mask become so political? Even using religious objections? Huh? And those against masks are militant about it. Think it’s a mind control plot. Or just..... not macho?

I literally just now learned a person I’ve known a long time now has it. She’s been very careful in public and only just last week ventured out for a couple hours. And now she is very ill and weak and has been ordered to self quarantine for 10 days. Just like that it gets you, out of nowhere. And no, it’s not pneumonia. (Do we seriously believe every dr/coroner/me/hospital in this country has been paid off to report everything as Covid?) And how do you nonbelievers explain the rest of the world GOING THROUGH THE SAME THING? The entire world is sacrificing their people to get Trump? To get money?

The "president" refused to wear one because he implied that it made him look weak. I've found mask-wearing to be more of an "urban vs. rural" debate. Most people in larger cities seem to be following the guidelines. In smaller towns, like the one I live in, masks are more often met with sneers, jeers and accusations of being a sheep. Rural Americans aren't taking this seriously because they think, at best, it's a huge overreaction to the flu, and at worst, it's a conspiracy to take down the president. Trump gave rural Americans the only reason they needed to not wear masks. Saying he "didn't want to give the media the pleasure of seeing him in it" made him look a lot worse than actually wearing it would have.

That may reflect the primarily white and older population in rural America. That demographic is majority GOP. The President's stance might well influence that group.
It may also reflect less education and less awareness of the news. If you live in small town America and have never heard of anyone in town being infected, I understand the decision. Young people in the city aren't exactly winning prizes for best practice, though.

I just think the only way to make everyone mask is to make it law and enforce it. I personally would not like the law but I get it and would follow it. Right now I am kind of a pick and chooser when it comes to masking. I realize that is not the right way though. I think this Florida surge is going to open some eyes though especially if the tens of thousands of mid westerners coming and going start testing positive

Agreed.
Even loose enforcement maybe enough to help. Who wants the hassle of a ticket or warning stop?
Public education can't get it done with that core group that takes medical advice from Trump and listens to conspiracy theory.
Stupid not to at least allow localities the option on masking. Which is Texas. Florida a little better on that, but the Governors have to risk political flack and put most reopening in reverse, back to maybe stage 2. Stage 1 in the really bad areas.
Then pray.
Reopening might then work with masks and limits on large groups inside.
If it doesn't work we have to really ramp up contact tracing, worst case some places shut down again, do it right when we re-reopen.

If you end up going to florida you will see it firsthand. After the governor shut down the bars friday the bars responded by closing the bar area but left the dance floors and food open. People then went back and forth to condos filling up their tumblers and danced the night away

I had hoped July was safe, that they carried out a controlled, phased reopening, now not looking good to travel.
My plans did not include large gatherings without masking being observed, mostly small group socializing, golf, a little time on the beach or at pool.
I was fine worse case with spending more time holing up. Better and different view and a relatively small risk to go out some. Might still turn around and be safe enough but every day seems worse.
In two weeks hospitals could be slammed and it would be like going to NYC in April.
Probably NYC safer...

The beaches were not really an issue. You guys would be fine. We also went to a pretty popular family destination. Any activity or eating area was where the people were. You can spread out at the beach and golfing is golfing. I also noticed a large number of florida plates heading back with us. So people could be bailing

So people could be bailing Full time residents frequently head North this time of year. They are tired of paradise, have family to visit, and it does get hot...good month to leave.
Also, you could be right that people are worried hospitals will be slammed and then they are in trouble. In urban areas the danger already is greater and it is a big issue in South Florida. Rural and small town Florida inland doesn't have great facilities to start with. It hits there and the cities get slammed worse.
Florida has about the same demographics as Italy. There could be even greater death numbers than we are seeing if the virus gets into that population more. So far the virus is not really hitting the elderly population as hard as Italy, the density of population may not be as great. But when the Yahoos dancing on the beach go home to their jobs infected the community spread danger increases.
The good news for retirees is that vacationers may not descend in the usual numbers, but bad news for Florida economy.
If they had held out just a little while longer on lock down until the curve was actually going down at significant rate and had insisted on more social distance this might have worked better. They gotta do that now. Or it will be total lock down again. reboot and start over.

You could deff notice a bit of a haze in the sky that made the sunsets look a bit different and cool. It was way more noticeable in the mountains of TN last evening though. Pretty awesome there.. I dont really see anything like it here in Funcie though
