He is a bit of a Marxist isn't he. It may seem that way, but when I'm with a liberal crowd, wine and cheese and charitable works and all, I scare them with my old fashioned conservative thinking. That, plus fighting in an unpopular war, and Bob Knight stories.

I don't have to prove that I got the vaccine. Even with the vaccine, you can still get COVID. Ergo, even if I lie to my employer about getting the vaccine, how would they possibly know? So is this only about the individuals personal risk in your mind? How dangerous to others are you willing to be?
The problem is that the delta transmission rate is 8 or 9 times higher than earlier variants, already.
Stronger emphasis than anybody originally expected is justified, the virus has changed.
If you go back in this thread you will see the concerns the epidemiologists posed about variants which many dismissed at that time. OK. We could dismiss those concerns only by basing our opinion on what was known of the original variant and assuming it would not change. We were wrong...
What about the next variant? We reduce variation now by increasing vaccine.
I expected we would need to mask up this fall in hot spots as cold weather created a surge. As it is we may well have to go back to masks now since so many for whatever reason are not vaccinated.

If someone really hated a nation, if you really wanted to kill a significant portion of a nation's population, what could be better than opening the borders during a pandemic? Open the borders, allowing in millions of illegal immigrants many of whom are Covid-19 positive. Put them into cramped processing centers so the infected ones can infect other illegals before allowing them into the country. Next, either give then bus tickets to go wherever they want into interior of the country, or better yet, put them on government planes and fly them to relocation centers located in the interior of the country. Sounds far fetched? No, it's exactly what the Joe Biden Administration is doing right now to the USA. Last month (July) 210,000 illegals were apprehended at the southern border. grahamallen.com/2021/08/210000-illegal-immigrants-caught-in-july-alone-worst-month-in-more-than-two-decades/Remember when Joe assured us back in February and March this was just a seasonal thing; that things would slow down once the summer heat came? Well, that was obviously wrong. The July, 2021 pace for 12 months is 2.5 million. Add in the ones not apprehended, the so called got-aways, and you've got 3 to 4 million illegals per year. But they will all be future Democratic voters, so it doesn't matter how many Americans they infect and kill. Take what is happening in McAllen, Texas; just one of many border towns in this nation. Since February of this year, over 7,000 Covid positive illegals have been released into their city. 1,500 of those Covid positive illegals this past week alone. www.foxnews.com/politics/texas-border-city-covid-positive-migrants-released-february-last-weekWe'll probably never know how many Americans are needlessly dying from being infected with Covid-19 from Illegals let into the country by Joe Biden. This is 100x worse than anything the Trump Administration may have done, or not done, in not handling the Covid-19 crisis correctly because Joe Biden is doing this on purpose.

I have a friend who us 46 and very conservative. He has been against the vaccine and very vocal about it. Well now he has been at Ball for 4 days and is not doing well at all. No previous serious medical conditions. He has a wife and 2 kids.. I wonder if he is rethinking his stance right now?

I have a friend who us 46 and very conservative. He has been against the vaccine and very vocal about it. Well now he has been at Ball for 4 days and is not doing well at all. No previous serious medical conditions. He has a wife and 2 kids.. I wonder if he is rethinking his stance right now? It's easy to understand, most people are asymptomatic or escape infection, at least until this delta variation.
Assuming he recovers, he traded very low probability of any harm from the vaccine and an hour to go get a shot, for a week or more of serious illness, a lot of worry for those around him, maybe causing somebody else illness, and paying a lot of money for care, somebody is paying.
If he doesn't make it, or has long haul consequences...thankfully that is very rare.
This is the biggest problem in risk management generally. It's not the probability of harm that is the problem, it is the severity when it occurs. Plus always hard to factor creating danger to others, not just yourself. Some seem to just not count that as their concern.

Better plan to kill Americans is to misinform the populace. Those immigrants you are worried about head where there are other immigrants, Like the quotes from Biden and Harris running up to the election that they wouldn't trust any vaccine developed under Donald Trump. That's the definition of misinformation. They should just be thankful Trump got the vaccine developed in record time. Biden can't even get the FDA to get the vaccines approved from normal use. They are still qualified as for emergency use only. I think a lot of folks find that unsettling. If it was the Biden Administration in 2020, the vaccines would still be in clinical trials. You seem to confuse the terms illegal aliens and immigrants; using them interchangeably. I think you could use a little education on the difference. An immigrant follows the rules. He or she applies from their country of origin for a tourist visa (if it's a short stay in the USA), or a Green Card if they intend to stay longer. Once they receive approval, they enter the country at a port of entry. They follow the rules outlined by the Congress of the United States and wait in line for their chance. An illegal alien enters the country illegally (hence the name Illegal). They steal across the border normally not a port of entry breaking the laws of the country they intend to live in. With the above definitions in mind, there is nothing legal about the hordes Biden is allowing to cross the southern border. You shouldn't be using the word immigrant to describe them.

I am seeing no evidence as the article I cited suggests that there is linkage to Covid spread.
While OTOH the intentional red state politics opposing mitigation and crippling public health, encouraging and supporting vaccination hesitancy is pretty clearly causing a surge.
BTW "immigrant" is perfectly correct dictionary usage. There are of course legal and illegal immigrants. Neither are causing the surge we are seeing in cases.

So you think those quotes a year ago are the reason? And you haven't noticed the quotes since the vaccine became available? The Covid misinformation is not Biden-Harris, and wasn't during the campaign. You surely don't want to review the Trump comedy of errors about Covid. Let's give credit for vaccine, but expect the development to lead to promotion of it's use in unequivocal terms. Trump should do that and get his lap dogs to quit sabotaging the one area where he treated Covid as a real threat and took action.

And you never will see any evidence. These folks disappear into ether. They don't want to be tracked, but most of them end-up within the southern states where Covid-19 rates are surging. Cause and effect? But I think you will be hard pressed to deny Border Patrol processing centers aren't Covid-19 breading grounds: www.scientificamerican.com/article/americas-immigration-system-is-a-covid-superspreader1/nypost.com/2021/07/06/covid-cases-reportedly-surging-in-immigrant-detention-centers/I do have a question, why are you so fixated on the panic porn of the Delta Variant? Don't you realize it's 1/10th as deadly as the earlier strains? Take the UK for example. The original wave (so-called Alpha I believe) in the UK had it's maximum number of cases during the week of January 4th which was 413,123 confirmed cases. Maximum deaths were achieved 2 weeks later, the week of January 18th, 2021 with 8,739 deaths. 8,739/413,123 for a 2.1% death rate The Delta Variant in the UK reached maximum spread the week of July 12th at 296,447 confirmed cases. Maximum deaths were 2 weeks later, the week of July 26th, with 524 deaths. 524/296,447 for a 0.2% death rate. It does spread a whole lot faster, and because of that it's life cycle is faster too. It "burned" through India in approximately 3 months. I won't suggest doing it the way India did, basically without anyone being vaccinated (only 9% of Indian's population is fully vaccinated). Do you realize today 62% of the unvaccinated folks in India have antibodies to Covid-19? You have to assume they got those antibodies by developing a mild case of the Delta Variant. Much better to do it the way the US is with 50% of the population fully vaccinated. www.indiaspend.com/explainers/covid-19-antibodies-growing-but-pandemic-not-over-yet-762630Using India as a guide, the UK, which is about a month ahead of the US, should be basically through the Delta Variant in another month. The US has probably 2 months to go. Then you can start worrying about the Lambda Variant which is prevalent in South America and will mainly enter the US through Joe Biden's open door southern border.

I do notice a lot of folks use the fact that all 3 vaccines aren't approved by the FDA except on an emergency basis as a reason for not getting it. If Biden could cut through the bureaucratic read-tape like Trump did and get the FDA to fully approve the vaccines, I think that would help a lot. Comedy of Errors? Let's see, implemented a travel ban from China, the original source of Covid-19 (unless you are one of those conspiracy folks who think it was started in a US military lab and then planted in Wuhan during the world military games?) and called a racist for it. Contrast that to Joe Biden's open southern border; a known threat that he is ignoring. Getting 3 vaccines developed and approved for emergency use when the Biden Administration can't even get the FDA after 8 months to remove the emergency use label. Which again would do wonders in encouraging folks to take the vaccine.

If Biden could cut through the bureaucratic read-tape like Trump did and get the FDA to fully approve the vaccines, I think that would help a lot. You and I and Dr Fauci and most scientists seem to agree. Glad to have you aboard trusting the health professionals at FDA where approval should be a no brainer and be expedited. The process for emergency use, and testing done, along with the experience we have had with hundreds of millions of shots should be enough.
The problem with your suggestion of cutting red tape is that much of the mostly ignorant concern about the vaccine is that it was "rushed" and not "fully approved" in the usual way which takes more time.
People who distrust Biden, the FDA, the CDC, and science generally are unlikely to see a second "rushed" process to be convincing. If the FDA process is completed in normal glacial manner there will still be claims that the process was rigged. But at least many of the laws created to prevent vaccine mandate by private employers and others would immediately not apply.
It has been suggested that Trump and Biden should jointly appear and assure those concerned that the process is trustworthy. Even independent Trump unequivocal vaccine support (perhaps reassuring people about the "Trump" science) would be some belated leadership on this.

Worry more about Florida schools where local authorities want to institute mask requirements.
The point is that immigrants of any variety are not causing the surge. Texas border crossings are not the reason for the surge in Florida. OR in the southern states generally. Where are the largest immigrant populations?
These immigrants go where there are large immigrant populations who will help them. Language, culture, family and demand for low paid immigrant labor is not the rule in most of the southern states outside Texas and the southwest.
9 of 10 counties with the greatest case rate are predominantly absent immigrants. BUT are among the least vaccinated.
