Kansas added Southern Illinois to their schedule today as the opener August 29. Which means their are going to be some P5 schools looking for games. Question is has the MAC decided if they are going to add Conference games to complete our schedule.

We have also had a handful of schools shut down practice entirely because of outbreaks

www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/29546814/sources-marlins-cancel-game-virus-spreadsIt took one weekend for there to be a breakout in MLB. AT LEAST 14 players and coaches have tested positive for the Marlins and a game has already been cancelled. And that's in low-to-no contact baseball. Much as I want to see sports, I just think it'll become a PR bloodbath if universities try to play in the fall.

Make that two games cancelled, as Yankees/Phillies has been cancelled, as Yankees would have used same visiting clubhouse as the Marlins.

college football does seem pretty hopeless. the NFL still might pull it off. There is just so much TV money to be made.

No way football makes it. Probably good news for staff. Can't see them not giving Neu and Co a season to play, and he will work cheap, so I would expect some kind of extension for him.

The concept of professionalism in the NFL will now include making intelligent choices about avoiding the virus. Given the number of immature, spoiled and dim-witted players in the league, there are guaranteed to be those who fail in this aspect of professionalism. Like the idiot NBA player who got a pass out of the bubble for his grandfathers funeral and couldn't keep his own stupid ass out of a strip club. This sort of thing will almost certainly affect the competitive balance as some teams suffer more than others. And, yes, it could well torpedo the whole season.

You would think million dollar contracts would make them think about the risk of losing that kind of money.

I could see the NFL saying "You get to carry your whole 90-man pre-season roster throughout the season. You get a COVID-19 outbreak severe enough that you can't field a full 53-man game day roster? Sucks to suck, you forfeit. Come back healthy next week, but the show must go on."
I think the NFL makes more than the other three sports combined, I can't imagine what it'd take for those 32 owners to walk away from that.

On the other hand, I read that the NHL last week gave 4000 tests to 800 players and had zero positives. Life is an IQ test.

I believe they have already scaled back pre season rosters to 80

We're up to 17 positive tests for the Marlins and 4 games "postponed" so far.

Five New England Patriot players have opted out of the NFL return as well.
