I don't share the hostility to girls sports some here seem to have, since my kids played through HS and not only got a lot out of it, but enjoyed it.
In my own days, long ago, I remember wondering why girls didn't get to play any school sports, at any level, even "girls sports." It did not seem fair. In those days the only girls sport sponsored by schools in CYO was kick ball, although softball came in at some point. And this was before there were school teams for tennis and golf at higher age groups. I vaguely remember knowing about girls HS basketball, playing odd rules, existing in Iowa or the plains states somewhere. My girls were USGA gymnasts when younger, got to play softball in the Delta summer leagues which I helped coach for a few years, and for their travel teams, and I loved the volleyball in Delaware Cty. Of course Indiana girls basketball produced some good players starting in the seventies. I am glad for those changes, and generally glad for Title IX.

Parents are by the worst and if you get a bad kid its normally learnt behavior/issues from the parents causing it. I had no problem with her being on the team but she was going to do the same thing as everyone else with the same consequences. I would have played her the same as I would any other kid had she been better she would have played more. I dont care, there is actually a girl who is a linemen in the league that is better than 60% of the boys. She is tough/big/mean and aggressive there are some coaches who would not take her only because she is a girl. Like I said I'm never going to tell a girl they cant play but Ill also never treat a girl playing differently than anyone else on the team.

Rob, you are sounding very old school. Congratulations.
Just don't expect to ever move up to higher levels with that attitude, you won't get those top players to join your team. They need to be treated "special."

They need to be treated "special." Old school has made me get into some trouble out there and with the Wife.. You see the all star team is determined by the coaches picking their own players from their team. Each coach picks 3 or 4 kids to make a team. Everyone picks their own kid to start no matter if they are good or terrible. I would not do this as there were better kids and I wanted Max to earn it if he ever did.. My wife was pissed until this year when every other coach voted him in.. He earned it on his own through hard work and a lot of practice

It was rough watching his friends and My friends play and coach the years we were not there. There were tears and lots of explaining but I think in the end he got it and learned a valuable lesson

I don't share the hostility to girls sports some here seem to have, What bullshit. The hostility is towards a dishonesty in promoting some womens' athletics efforts beyond what is deserved. Womens' involvement in athletics promotes all the same good mental and physical health that it does in boys, as I saw first hand by coaching my two daughters in a couple sports. One of the more ridiculous aspects of this is the US womens soccer team pitching a fit about their pay compared to the mens team. They're all hysterical and whiney about it like a...uh...bunch of women. The reality is that the super-wonderful world champion women were beaten by a regional U15 boys team. The discussion of equal pay should be between the womens national team and regional U15 boys teams. This result, by the way, is in line with track records of various distances where boys age group records in the 14-15 range typically equal womens world records. By the way, the thought of what the Vandy chick was going to do if there had been an actual return is something that's not dwelt on much, or even mentioned, in the fawning national media stories. My guess is that the coaches of the opposing team told their players that UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES are you to lay a block on the girl. It's not like she's going to make the tackle anyway. Nobody wants to be the program forever on youtube with a player blasting a girl into low earth orbit, or, may God forbid, breaking one of her less dense and robust bones. This is just another aspect of the farcicalness of the whole thing.

There would be a shit storm of hate for the KR and laundry list of excuses for her if she failed to make the tackle
