What's up, everyone. Diehard Rhody fan here. I was wondering if you could give me a breakdown of Ish's game? Luckily we had our best senior guard return this season, so if Ish can impact our team, we have a shot at making some noise. From what I can tell, he looks like a streaky player who seems to take many shots? It looks like he's had some big games but I wonder how he'll do in the A10. Any insight would be much appreciated and good luck next season!

Any insight would be much appreciated and good luck next season! Geez, where do I begin. Distracted, poor ball handler, poor defender, not extremely athletic, streaky shooter. He did improve his ability to be a more consistent scorer this year, but he will give up more points on the defensive end than he will score. Our board has rose-colored glasses when it comes to Ish, so you're not going to get a lot of posts like mine. However, if you are basketball-savvy and pay attention to the details and nuances of the game, you will see things other than his PPG average. One thing I will say - it will be interesting to see what Ish and Coleman do if they get in programs/ with coaches that/ who have discipline. Our coach is sloppy, disengaged, and provides/ expects no discipline.

Another thing about our offense - it is pretty much a throw it around the perimeter and chuck a three "game plan". Ish isn't much of an off-the-dribble creator. And he likes to shoot - a lot. He'll make 2 or 3 threes in a row and then throw up a brick or an airball. He might fill a need for you off the bench or even as a starting 2-guard, but I'd temper your expectations. To me the kid does not have a winner mentality, but let's be honest, he's moving from a team with a losing record to another team with a losing record.

I think he has some talent but it always felt like he didn’t fully actualize it. And, we didn’t have the best overall results during his time. He’s a nice player but not great. Maybe in a better program with a better coach who provides direction he’ll flourish.

Can score, chooses when to defend. Overall good player but deff had some limitations. Again it's really going to be interesting how he plays for a different coach. He might thrive with a new coach or system.

I don't think he is a good enough athlete to be an impactful player in the A-10. There isn't a single area where he really excels.

Thanks! Honestly, our coach is on the hot seat due to his coaching in games. We tend to look like an AAU team that just goes 1 on 1 all the time, throw up contested shots, and hope to out talent teams.

I think all of these assessments are pretty harsh, if you ask me. I'm not a fan of his attitude or politics, but as a player he's a 2nd team All Conf. guy in a league filled with really good guards. He is a good driver, especially on the baseline, better three point shooter than his stats show, 90% free throw, led team in steals and had more assists that turnovers and pretty clutch in my opinion. And, he has improved significantly since his freshman year. He can and needs to be more focused on the defensive end which could improve under a more demanding coach.

Does he typically take a lot of transfers? As RC said, that's why he was attracted to RI, but that's not really what he needs. Man, college basketball is a cesspool right now.

Could you please advise us on how to maneuver one's coach onto the hot seat? We have a coach that's won exactly two conference tourney games in 8 years but yet appears to be about to get an extension.
If you look through the relevant threads here, you may notice a distinct lack of angst over Ish not returning. This should tell you something, although he's not bad and may well be somewhat useful to your team.

I'm not too fond of the new transfer rule because it really hurts programs like ours. We had a fantastic coach in Dan Hurley. We made back-to-back NCAA tournaments, but then UConn stole him. David Cox was Hurley's top assistant so we promoted him to be our head coach once Hurley left. We had our highest-ranked recruiting class in our program's history, and it felt like a ton of momentum. Three years later, and most of that recruiting class has transferred and we haven't landed a bid since... We have lost a lot of transfers and have brought in a lot as well... Some successful and some complete busts.. This season, we desperately needed a guard that could make an immediate impact with our final scholarship, and the hope is Ish can be that player.. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter who we bring in if the coaching continues to be at best mediocre...

He can definitely make an immediate impact— he’s good enough. But he needs to take things up a notch and find consistency to make a difference.
Honestly, it’s really hard to tell with our guys because of the coaching.
