There is too much we do not know to pretend to know what everyone's inner thought and intent is and worry very much about this.
Except for the part about hoping the year goes better than most expect and the BSU Administration has the resources and good sense to set us up for a good future. I am far more worried about the resources and good sense part than that the staff we have are somehow unprofessional and won't give it a good effort.
Which is what I expect.

You guys know Darner is Chayce McDermott's uncle & Chayce's only brother Sean McDermott plays in the NBA with the Memphis Grizzlies. The next question is do the McDermotts have any cousins below college age to possibly recruit?

Unbelievable that people are speculating about the future of the BSU basketball coaching position here on the BSU basketball message board. Take that crap somewhere more appropriate!!!

Very odd situation to have an assistant with so much of a better record than the head coach. Maybe sometimes when the assistant is an older guy just keeping busy, but Darner and Whiford are basically the same age.
There is a fairly obvious potential problem when you have two assistants who are older...and especially with a head coach who is already an extremely low-energy recruiter to start with. Who is going to beat the bushes all summer on the recruiting trail? And like David, I wonder what the dynamic among the staff is going to be. Looking at the comparative records, it looks like BSU would be best off if Whitford would just always do whatever Darner told him he should do. But not many, if any, head coaches would be inclined to do this. So, 9 months later, do we know much more about why Ball State hired this guy or why this guy decided that Ball State was an attractive career coaching move?
It still seems odd from both sides.

Darner, or any assistants, is an enigma to me. How can anybody with basketball experience sit and watch this train wreck and not show more emotion or reaction?
