Newest rumor is merging the big 12 and pac 12 into a 20 team conference Talk about long road trips. Bad enough going to Penn State... It would have to be two divisions for most sports. Not sure I see the point.

That would be 64 teams? Misses the point about conferences wanting to control, maximize their finances. Follow the money.

We all know the Presidents are playing the game right now. They'll all come together and rally around each other publicly, saying they are committed to the B12, how they want to be together, bring in new teams, and remain a strong conference. While behind the scenes every single one of those Presidents will be reaching out to the other P5 conferences looking for a new home.

It does seem possible they would perhaps be first among all conferences, if they are not already, although with the B10 certainly disputing that, and with a number of schools elsewhere with claims that could not be easily ignored.
Being their "own division" and allowing their hubris to go so far as to dismantle the P5 and ignore the other 4 conferences seems unlikely to accomplish their goal of maximizing income from a big national championship tournament.

Why would the SEC agree to that if they can poach OSU and Michigan ?

Why would the SEC agree to that if they can poach OSU and Michigan ? Mostly that I think a new P 3-4-5 or whatever that is bigger than a 24 team super conference is a better deal for everybody.
Scheduling regionally, having traditional rivalries retained is valuable to everybody. A second tier in conference has served all the conferences well.
I am waiting to see what happens. Texas is a real prize, I am surprised the PAC 12 isn't promising them the moon and that Texas should also not consider the B10 while they are at it.

Yeah but Texas isn't near the prize OSU is, so the BIG 10 needs to make sure they can hold their conference together before promising anyone else a dime. Gutting the Big 12 is one thing, gutting the Big 10 is one hell of a scalp.
