Another hypothetical... If you were a sports reporter writing about this upcoming season. What would you be pushing whit for info about? Jones and Wyndham pop into my mind instantly. Followed by how Thomas is doing and how is soukas s progressing.. I think we know what Luke and Cochran are going to be same with Acree. I'd want to know why three assistant coaches left and why we presently only have two ? Or did I miss something and we hired someone else ? We've seen reports talking about the departures. I don't think there is any question about an assistant taking a HC position, and we have probably heard what we are going to hear about the other two.
I'd ask about the timetable for hiring a third.

Followed by how Thomas is doing and how is soukas s progressing.. I think we know what Luke and Cochran are going to be same with Acree. Good points all. Good questions for future stories.
Cochran does seem to have the best track record to predict his play, looks now like our leading scorer. Would still be good to hear how he fits in. To me every player on the roster could be as interesting as Sparks or really more interesting than those 3 big men, in terms of immediate impact. All three together don't have to do that much if we get the lost scoring replaced.
I'm more curious about Pearson, Jihad, Sellers and Jacobs, who you don't mention, than Soukas, but it is a good. question what he can do, we didn't see him get extended minutes. This when he was used to being the leader with heavy usage in his Euro days. Losing all that back court play really potentially shakes up everybody's role.
Jones and Windham are players who could indeed be potential and surprise difference makers. Both provide the shooting we need. OR be ghosts we don't seer... Just knowing they are playing at full speed would be good news.
Although we have seen a lot of Luke, the question would be is he adjusting well or not to a PG role, Acree IMO really gave a good effort last year and this year should not be at PF this year. So even for those guys there are good questions.

If you play poker and make a good bet, and it doesn't pay off, doesn't make it a bad bet... Neither Huggins nor Hendriks had any D1 offers other than Ball State. These were not "good bets". In poker you can bluff, basketball doesn't work that way. I don't think the bet was based on high probability of success on this bet, though.
Don't try to teach me about poker if you don't get that logic. This is not about a bluff. It's about not drawing the best probability of winning a hand at the table but still having a good bet. A flush draw isn't as likely to win as drawing 3 cards to a pair of J's. But if you are playing against 4 or 5 players and want to win the big pot, drawing one to fill the flush is a good bet.
You made the case that we missed on better players those years. That actually makes taking a chance a better bet. If you start out playing AK, later in the hand a flush draw arises when you don't pair, if the money odds are good, that can be a good bet. Big men can make the difference that's a big pay off.
I'd rather start with the big men, sign my primary targets and not have to make that bet, we agree there! But it might still be a good bet.

Knock off the whole analogy, this is nothing here remotely like poker.

Poker can be worked in when Longwood is in the discussion...otherwise, no.

Knock off the whole analogy, this is nothing here remotely like poker. It's your analogy. Some instructive points there about risk taking and game theory. But, I'd rather have somebody answer those questions Calhoun wants answered about other players.
So OK.

No it isn't. I said something about taking too many gambles on players. You brought up poker. Sheesh.................
