FT shooting really stood out in the Box.
Getting fouled is a great way to exploit the athletic advantage, but there is that little thing about hitting the FTs.
+/- column was interesting. Would not have thought Jacobs was the guy on the court during all the bad stretches.

From the stats I have to ask why Bumbalough is even playing. One freaking assist vs a DII opponent ? Whitford's recruiting is a mess.

When the team shoots poorly you don't get many assists recorede, we had 10 assists total it looks like. Not a lot of baskets off assists.
More points than I would have guessed on second chance points. With all the shots missed I guess that makes sense. We sure didn't seem to go after a lot of those 18 missed 3's.
If we are going to shoot that many we better hit more than 6 of 24. How about a mere 35%, 9 of 24, would have been a different game. Throw in a couple more FTs and the game would have been something like what we had expected.

Sparks 0-1 from three point land?

Sparks 0-1 from three point land? Yeah, one of 4 or 5 poor shots beyond the line by big guys. Thomas didn't hit, but he has some track record of hitting out there.

I wouldn't make stats available either after that. Here's my fav quote from James after losing to the terror of the You Pee.
"I just told the team in the locker room that, ‘Hey, this isn’t my first loss to a Division II team,'" Whitford said. "I’ve lost to them at Miami, Xavier, Arizona, any level I’ve ever been at. This time of year you just sometimes you deal with situations like we did today. No one here is panicking, it’s a great lesson for us and we played a really good team and they deserved to win the game.”
This is an early season, John Woodenesque quote. Nothing instills confidence in your team better than an admission of historical ineptitude.

BTW, the score was not indicative of how badly they outplayed us. The refs swallowed their whistles in the last five minutes and let BSU mug the Huskies mercilessly. At one point, we were trying to foul and tomahawking their guys and the refs just let us take the ball with no call.

Darner is either going to slit his wrist wondering what he got himself into, or he is thinking, I am going to be a head Coach at Ball State in the near future.

Cochran's experience as best-player-on-a-bad-team may come in very handy this season.
I looked up Cochran's and Walton's stats from last year, thinking they might be a close match. But Cochran was probably a closer match to Coleman...except that Coleman could shoot effectively from 3 while Cochran cannot. So imagine Coleman with Walton's shooting range, and you might know what to expect statistically from Cochran.

Whitford isn’t really bothered by losing. Never has been. He’s always been more interested in “the process” and “playing the right way.” How many times have we lost but he said, “I felt like we played the right way” after? Or “I didn’t think we played the right way.” Not, “this was a tough loss” or “we need to “work hard to correct the things we didn’t do well.” Or, “hey, I’ve lost to D2 teams before. A bunch a times!”
If whit truly disliked losing he’d recruit guys who also dislike losing and do everything they can to not lose because they hate it so much. Instead it’s just another day at the office and whatever.

Darner is either going to slit his wrist wondering what he got himself into, or he is thinking, I am going to be a head Coach at Ball State in the near future. No one will ever convince me that Darner is not planning a hostile non hostile take over Looking at our schedule, I think a 4-7 non-conference record is likely. Combine that with a possible 1-5 start to the conference season I would think could stir up some coaching change discussions internally. Especially if we are a low scoring team like I feel we will be.
