I just hope Brown can even somewhat live up to the expectations. Kinda not fair to have him be as built up as he has been and he’s not even officially in school yet. I hope he's just a good player who can hit open shots and help knit the team together. No way he can meet some of these expectations.

Browns cult are some of the worst about expectations.. Most don't know how different D1 college is going to be

I’d take a PG who can help control tempo, reduce turnovers, and quarterback the team! The scoring is extra!

Let's hope he can actually do those things for us. I just hope we finally have a kid who won't turn it over and can get the ball to guys in position to get easier baskets. I hope he can settle us down when we need to, and can speed us up when we need to get out and go. I hope he can get guys to the right positions on the floor to make the offense more efficient and more effective.
But, he's not had a single class and he's not had a second of practice with the team. He might be really good, and he might not. We'll see how it all goes.

Yeah and I'd like a point guard who probes and moves toward the basket when he has the ball. Cochran and Bumbalough spend way too much time moving laterally when out front. It's just not the way a point guard should play.

They can be a bad thing, producing disappointment. Not that there has ever been any of that on this board.

I'm personally going to curb my expectations. FINAL FOUR BABY!

I might be the only person on here who had zero expectations for this kid. I hope he does well and becomes a star. If he does not we have/had nothing to lose and it's worth the shot.

What I hate is how the team is handling and promoting it. They have never done this for any other recruit for any sport. There openly treating this like he is the messia and if I'm a current player I'm looking at this and getting pissed off for multiple reasons

I think quite a bit of what you are reading is sarcastic. We've seen the kid play. He's one of us now. I hope for nothing but the best for him. I agree on the promotion. He's being set up to be a disappointment.

They did a little of this with Sparks. I feel it’s the local area ties they are also trying to promote and help the attendance issue - during most of the years we averaged over 6,000 and lead the MAC. We should easily average over 6,000 but we need a reason, like winning and local talent! The 6,000 number shows we over built the arena by at least 6,000 seats. BG did it right, including building by the football stadium to resolve parking issues - feel like I walk half way across campus to get to the arena in the coldest part of the year! Resolving this issue, and they could, could help attendance - I live 2.5 hours from Muncie, but would drive it, if I didn’t feel like I was being punished by not buying season tickets and forced to walk past all the empty parking spaces close to the arena to see a game and walk back past these same empty spaces!

Yeah, the marketing around Brown is almost ridiculous (and clearly a ploy to sell tickets on the shoulders of Brown) I haven't seen this kind of marketing and hype over an individual player before at BSU. I get it, he's a local hero and one of the top scorers in state history, but man, way to set up the kid for fan disappointment. Anything less than All MAC/POY type play and he'll be seen as a let down. The promotion is over the top.
I hope Luke just comes in and plays the way it's predicted he can play.

The arena was built at a time when NCAA Tournament First Round games were hosted in 10,000 seat arenas in unglamorous places. That was a goal. Major concerts were a goal. It wasn't just built for men's basketball. If it were built today it would be much different. It is full however for winter graduations and an occasional other event. I'm sure the university is glad to have its capacity.

I’d take a PG who can help control tempo, reduce turnovers, and quarterback the team! The scoring is extra! No, I don't agree. He has to be a huge 3pfg threat or he won't be able to do that. Two reasons.
One. He has to bring players out on him to create space for others to cut into the lane. That's a problem with Cochran as a PG. Not much outside threat.
Two. If they can give him room he is not quick or big enough to take the ball into the lane and kick it out. Cochran is a threat to get inside, and that gives him some chance to penetrate, kick out. With Luke, if they have to guard him closely outside, then they are more susceptible to screens, or even without a screen he may be able to get a little daylight and beat somebody into the lane and that opens up everything.
Luke can be a big threat on ball screens outside the arc, especially using some body who can drive to the basket if they switch the screen to guard him .

I'm sure the university is glad to have its capacity. Very good points. But also the local community really turned out for BSU basketball. And this was before quite as much TV coverage of basketball. They saw a chance to draw attendance from Indy and to attract games with bigger schools who at that time came to Muncie.
The athletic program did not see the very rapid change in college basketball that was coming.
Give them some credit. They did see the short term, made a good hire in Majerus to go with the new facility and create a growth opportunity. We filled the arena occasionally and it looked like it had been a good bet. Hiring mistakes on coaches sure didn't help, but the arena would be a long term success only if we built the basketball program into a juggernaut. We had no vision for that, thought we could kick the can down the road hiring assistant coaches and milking attendance that was never going to disappear as Muncie declined, and as BB evolved into something different in the late 90's.
