Is it possible that he said he wanted to play as part of him coming to BSU? Probably not, but …….

Personally, I think he would have been better served with a red shirt year after transferring in mid season. I think he will be fine after he adjusts to the speed of the game. The work ethic is there for his jump shot to develop/return. Having said that, I don't expect him to be a superstar, just a serviceable, possibly above average shooting guard in the MAC.

I like Luke as point guard as he runs it well, but for this year is lost on defense. I'm sure his shooting will improve.

IMO, he needs to adjust his game to D1 level. Those adjustments don't happen overnight, nor do they happen midseason. He needs to have a pre-season period to condition and make some adjustments.

IMO, he needs to adjust his game to D1 level. Those adjustments don't happen overnight, nor do they happen midseason. He needs to have a pre-season period to condition and make some adjustments. The theory they have bet on is that by seasons end he is used to the speed and can make relatively minor changes. That could still happen...He's not generally taking bad shots, just many times a little more closely guarded than he's used to, and a little more out of rhythm where in HS he was in control more. He really can't get into the lane and do anything at this point, probably never will be a big threat to do that.
You have to wonder if he could get some off ball looks if we screened away from the ball for him, but that is also something he isn't really used to doing. That might happen more if he was playing with another guard who could be a threat to score with the ball, and he was playing more as a sub for Bumbalough as SG than as a PG.

He's probably had to rush his shot a bit because he's getting closed out on much quicker than he did in HS, and, he can't just drive the paint all the time like he could in HS. He just needs time. I don't know that he'll ever defend well, but if he can get buckets when we need them in tight games he'll be a big help at some point.

Repetitive here, but yeah, a redshirt would have made sense. Agree with many (most?) that that might not still be enough to get him beyond offensive threat/defensive liability. I've gotta think he finds his range given more minutes and starts sinking some 3s, but in Whit's offense, he will have to work to create his shots more than he likely did prior... Whit's offense doesn't layer screens for shooters very well, and that's what he (and several other shooters in the past) could use to get more open looks instead of the pass-around-the-perimeter looks. The shooters this year are definitely benefitting from Sparks' inside game, and some inside-out should free him and some others for looks (like in the Toledo game).
I really wish the best for the kid and hope he puts it together to have a solid career here, but it seems to me that there are some possibly insurmountable limitations (especially on the D1 defense level). Hope I am proven wrong and he can get past that with work, but IMHO that work could have come as part of a redshirt, especially considering this year's prospects.

The way we currently play will not help Brown. He would be an effective off the ball shooter in the right offensive scheme. Running him through screens and keeping him on the same side of the floor with Sparks would open things up for him. There is way too much standing around off the ball for this kid to be effective.

I thought he was 6-2?
Anyway, Jeff Robbins. Could shoot from anywhere, went to Murray State, came back to Muncie and averaged like 2 per game.

Watching Lipscomb vs. Stetson this afternoon and Brown started for the Hatters. He hit one 3 and has missed two other attempts. He still is just a one-dimensional player, not a very good defender and gets beat regularly on the dribble drive. Stetson has another Indiana kid playing from Marion.

Stetson upset Lipscomb in overtime today and Brown finished with 11 points and is Stetson’s leading scorer this season. Lipscomb was coming off a road win at Louisville and entered the ASUN opener at 8-5. Stetson improves to 6-6 after playing 9 games on the road. Jalen Blackman from Marion is playing well and he and Brown share the 2 guard position. Both played 20-25 minutes today. At times the Hatters run a 3 guard offense and did most of the second half and it was very effective. Michael Lewis worked hard to get Blackman to BSU and he would have been a nice addition to our backcourt. Shooting 95% from the foul line and can score from the perimeter and driving to the basket.
