I’d like for all these guys to come back, but I’m torn because I was told all season that our youth was our weakness. Problem is we need a coach so these guys can actually have a choice with us in the mix before they commit.

Other schools are hiring, we need to act. I had suggested earlier that a player or two on the team should have been invited to be on the search committee prior to firing Whitless. We are seeing the results of poor leadership!!! How is this poor leadership? Beth finally took the action we’ve been screaming for. He was just fired Monday. What if the coach we want is still coaching and can’t talk to us yet? You wanna settle for a coach we aren’t sure we want just to get a coach quicker? A properly done process will make for a better search.

I don't think Sellers and Jihad are going to get anything other than maybe a couple of lateral offers. We should have ample time to keep both of them.

For the moment these kids say they’re willing to wait to meet the new coach first. We’ll see how long that lasts.

Our current team is Luke, Luke, Cochran, Pearson, Josh Bryan, and Hendriks. Total overhaul en route. I’m somewhat excited about it actually. It will be interesting to see if a new coach can get anything out of Hendriks. Even a rotation piece that plays 10 to 15 minutes per game would be exceptional. I think he has some talent, just isn't willing to put-in the work. I image he got an medical red-shirt for the past season, so he could be eligible for another 3 years. I could see him milking the system for a Masters Degree or two.

Everyone agree on what that is? We pretty much all agree except for you. What process, what criteria? What weight on criteria? We all want a top MAC coach. But not clear at all how some of the names would so clearly be that. Not much process mentioned. Except the detailed magical Sherman Plan! Or. "Conduct a strategic search?" No idea what that means.

Coaching search
Decide if your going to use a firm.. I would not it's a waste of money
Second determine how much you have to spend and assistant pool. I think we are looking at 320-400,000 for HC add incentives
Make a 10 person list contact them let them know up front this is what we spend some of the 10 will say he'll no take remainders start interview process
Beth has hired and been part of the process many times. She's not dumb the process is easy. Picking the right one is hard part but that's on Beth. It's her defining moment. Unless she is around long enough to make a football hire.

I have high regard for Beth. She'll do a good job making the best choice from any list of finalists
As for the first two steps, maybe not so easy based on past searchs.
But...It saves money for a couple of years!

Saves money for a couple of years! AD moves on and it's the next AD's problem. I've thought many times this is exactly what was happening. If so it almost worked but the job did not come. Now there is no dodging it and we have a make or break moment upcoming

BSU spent money on a search firm to do what I’m guessing is in the ADs job description. What’s really the waste is the names they bring to the AD she could have figured out on her own, (Midwest Power 5 asst) past or present, or the search firm will throw in a couple of thier recycled clients.
Hope players come back the potential is there, but if they voiced their opinion and they feel it’s not even being taken into consideration hard to blame them. At the end of the day whether Darner is legit or not legit candidate, he’s been around long enough to know the difference.

I was going to put this in the 'Coaching Search' thread but that seems to have disintegrated into a salary debate; that withstanding, I tend to follow what similar programs as Ball State are doing in terms of HC coaching searches. For instance, with Milwaukee and Western Michigan opened about two weeks before Ball State. WMU is using a search firm, and to this point their message board has heard nothing as to viable candidates; on the other hand, it would appear Milwaukee has obstensibly made their hire. Below are the reported details of the hired HC, along with others who were considered:
"According to a report from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Bart Lundy has been hired as the new basketball coach at UW Milwaukee. Lundy was mentioned as a finalist by HoopDirt.com back on 3/9 (Daily Dirt). The veteran head coach has had two stints at Queens University of Charlotte – 1998-03 and 2013-22. He has put together a 333-103 (.764) record during time at the school. He also spent 6 seasons as the head coach at D1 High Point, where he went 96-87 (.525). Lundy is also familiar with the area as he spent 2009-12 as the DBO at Marquette under Buzz Williams. Other finalists for the job included: JR Blount (assistant coach Iowa State), Andy Bronkema (head coach Ferris State), Stan Gouard (head coach Southern Indiana), Ben McCollum (head coach Northwest Missouri State), Saul Phillips (head coach Northern State), Jason Shay (assistant coach Wake Forest), Fred Watson (head coach Miles College)."
