The drought is over! It has been 13 years since Ball State has played in the championship match of the MIVA tournament and 20 years since the Cardinals have won the tournament. Purdue Fort Wayne nearly upset the Cardinals in Worthen Arena in February leading 2-1 but falling 3-2 after a valiant Cardinals comeback. The Mastadons swept #2 seed Loyola in Chicago and are playing outstanding volleyball. This match between the Cardinals and Mastadons for the right to represent the Midwest in the NCAA tournament at UCLA is going to be a barn burner. Hosting the match in Worthen Arena with a huge partisan BSU crowd, will hopefully give the Cardinals the home court advantage as it has all season. Let’s rock Worthen Saturday night!

On a related note, Princeton upset Penn State earlier this week in EIVA tournament. Princeton plays NJIT tonight for NCAA berth. Penn State hoping for at large bid.

This will be a very difficult match tonight. They are very hot and have taken out #3 and #2. We Have beaten them twice, so the revenge factor kicks in. We need energy, emotion and focus. If we get all that we should win. If any of that is missing, could be a real problem. PFW will have them for sre as the Cinderella here.

This is one time where we aren’t just “in the tournament”, we are as competitive as any team in it. I am not following the reasoning there. I think it shows every one is playing well who is in it and the tournament will be a tough one. But, the top teams losing in conference tourney with extremely likely at large spots does not mean they are not still top teams.
And it likely means the others in are hot at the right time.
