Despite all that he’s a risk worth taking for a Mac program. He’s immediately the most talented player in that league. (Not best player but by far the most talented). If he displays even half that talent EMU improves greatly.

Could be much better, but if dad is a pain in the ass, and the team is disrupted or distracted by the drama, that would be more his history apparently. And that will only be worse if NIL starts being a big factor. Those big contracts might actually require him to do something.
I am also wondering about how that could lead to academic issues, after all there may be some question about last semester and his academic preparation after taking a month away from school. Not exactly a nose to grindstone student, I would bet.

Thanks for posting. Sounds like a lot of talent and a lot more bad decisions. As we know, a high level of talent does not always translate into a great player. I saw the head line about his transfer into the MAC yesterday, but after seeing the details I doubt that he will move the needle much at EM. |

If I were an EMU fan, of course I would be excited. I suppose we can all admit we'd have been very excited if he came here...baggage and all. But the absence of widespread panic here is appropriate. My expectation is he will play one up and down season at Eastern and not win a championship. The MAC West (or what used to be the MAC West) needs things of interest. It's been a dismal trash heap for too long.

EMU is going to get a big problem although they should finally sell some tickets. The coach had better win & Bates better be good. I think the big question at EMU will be if Bates plays all season for them.(I think he would have been better off going to the G league)

Eastern Michigan 22/23 roster lists 14 players including freshmen and transfers. Emoni Bates is not on the roster. They also appear to have removed any articles from the Mens Basketball site that mention him.
I wonder if he will arrive late or if he is already out? Strange…….

They don't seem to know if he'll show up on campus or go to the G league, or wherever.

Was watching a few highlights of his. I think he has the length and skills to dominate around the paint and baseline in the MAC, but of course will want to be demonstrating his "versatility" to the pros, and thus will be continually hanging around the perimeter, where he might be about EMU's 3rd best player.
