Here's a crazy idea. Why dont you guys in Indiana get off your arses and computers in your mom's basement and support the FB team (and other sports) at games. To those of you who do show, out of state alumni appreciate your efforts. From what I see on tv, that's not many of you. And quit talking about dropping to a lower division or dropping FB. We are on this board to support our student athletes as fans of our university. The majority of us don't give a damn about your accounting background. Keep your BS financial reality (or lack thereof) with numbers to yourself. Fans / alumni enjoy sports to get away from reality. Quit pissing on our entertainment. Most of this board who are local or close are at nearly all football and basketball games Yep. I’ve been there during the worst of the worst (like the 21 game losing streak) and I’ll continue to be there. Been around since I was a ute.

That's the rub. We are stuck. MVC maybe. Downgrade FB to FCS. That or something like it seems likely after the P5 TV money makes pretense of smaller conferences in FBS. Impossible for G5 to survive? What makes you think the MVC would want Ball State? Outside of them, there is absolutely 0 places to go. Also, you have mentioned that football in conferences like the MAC isn’t sustainable. What is your timetable? 1 year? 5? 20? You’ve mentioned even before there was talk of the P5 conferences separating from the football playoffs. I just haven’t hear of its imminent demise yet. A lot of big money moves this year. But you are probably right it is years away.
The P5 don't leave the playoffs, they just squeeze all meaningful participation of G5 schools out. The playoffs are not similar to BB where the NCAA runs the show with an interest to promote all the conferences and a healthy revenue share.
Those TV deals signed this year mean P5 FB budgets get bigger with no similar revenue boost to the G5. How can that lead to us being "real" FBS schools and competitive? It's something of a fiction now and going to get worse.
However long we maintain the fiction, every year staying in FBS costs us more money. Coaching salaries increase, assistants at P5 make more than our HC's. Luxury facilities and huge NIL for recruits. Reduced number of low level schools having opportunity to play in money games are coming producing less revenue as P5 conferences are going to require more in-conference games with higher revenue from TV contracts.
The playoffs are not really a leveling force, just never going to be nice to G5 schools. MORE teams likely, but mostly MORE P5 teams allowed and as G5 schools prove themselves they get the chance to join P5, leaving G5 weaker each year.

Never advocated dropping the football program. If we were talking about dropping sports that don't make money, we'd get rid of the whole athletic program, not just football. I do advocate having a higher standard than a 6-6 record with all those wins being over terrible teams. But that apparently meets your standard. So be it. Good to hear that, since the financials don't concern you, you also would have supported spending that extra cash for all those West Division champ Whitford basketball teams to go to the CIT or CBIT, or whatever postseason tournaments. Apparently, you're more generous with other people's money and more supportive of ALL BSU athletes than is the administration. I don't think about any of that stuff. No, I don't care about those basketball tournaments. Your post is full of assumptions. I'm just a fan that likes to watch the football team. It's not that deep. That is what we need to have, and we can do a lot with that, but it does not require us being in FBS, and mortgaging the other athletic programs to do it.
I can watch and support FB at my alma mater in D3 and the games are very good. I would still support us in FCS. And they have a tournament post season, and as things shake out will probably expand that and use bowl games.

Jacksonstreetdreg, we can hear you now..."mom, we need more meatloaf!" Besides financially giving to our athletic department, my Ball U college buddies use major games (including all bowls since '89) as reunions. We have been to: Tenn, Penn St, NC St, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Ga St, Virginia, Mich, Indiana, Northwestern, Nebraska, Auburn, Clemson (I'm sure i'm missing some) which required a hell of alot more financial commitment and time than getting in your Pinto and driving two miles. We showed up, unfortunately the team did not in a few of those. I moved out of state due to promotions. I just wish more peeps from Indy made the 1 hour drive to enjoy a fall day with a competitive FB team. Again to those who do make the effort, your fellow alumni appreciate your commitment. And no, we would not be interested in going to Ferris St.

I’m sure the players really appreciate you! Who ever heard of moving out of state to accept a promotion to head greeter at walmart? What a bunch of bullshit.

Chuppah I will be there again this weekend supporting the team and the weather should be nice. Wish 1/2 the tailgate lot would attend the game. Stadium wouldn’t be big enough to hold the crowd no Shit tailgate lot has 12,000 in it every game Do they allow pass outs to come back in? NC St started doing that and I was told it helped.

Baby steps I guess. Back in our day tgey didnt even allow tailgating. How stupid was that?? Which one if you guys have the pull to suggest that and make it happen? Unfortunately it appears crowd control would not be an issue

This feud is way better than lurk and oohmhs 1000 page political circle jerk Nonsense. I'll give them full credit for high entertainment value, and good energy. It's a great addition. But it lacks the power of the the Covid thread which provides more refined incisive intellectual exchange. Not only is it widely enjoyed but there is the public service element. We should all be proud of our work who post here No publication of any note has what this forum has, a unique mix of excellent sports reporting, ribald comedy, public policy debate and group therapy.

I can see it but there is 0 room for error. They aren’t going to beat Toledo and Kent will be a tough one. If you go with those 2 as losses, you have to beat EMU, Ohio and Miami. I think there is some saying about the journey of a 1000 miles….so let’s beat the Hurons. Kent has not impressed me much. They beat Ohio, and that's about it. FWIW (nothing) espn match up predictor says Kent has a 75% of winning against us.
