Yeah, we can't just rely on the defense against Kent or Toledo.

As long as everyone keeps making excuses for Paddock this is what we have. He’s not a freshman learning to play qb. Lose next week and it’s decision time. Stay with paddock and try for a bowl or try a new option and look to next year

Game summary: EMU sucked less That’s pretty much it. They made just enough winning plays to overcome our refusal to make a winning play.

Time to give some playing time to the players we expect to deliver next year. If they do not let some of the young play, we will go through this next year again. If I am the AD I tell Neu his job is safe and lets give the kids a try. It will pay off next season. The more experience a team has, the better the chance of those players learn how to close out a contest behind or ahead in the score.

Whether it is lineup changes or staff changes. Don’t rock the boat is in BSU DNA.

Haven’t read any game comments yet, but thought I’d add mine with no interference. Read all the comments tomorrow. My main observation is that we need a new quarterback. Paddock appears to be a good leader, not a great quarterback. He shows NO qb run option - he hands of, he passes - period. Opposing teams do not have to worry about Paddock running the ball, it ain’t going to happen. We have two, maybe three high rated qbs and one of them is the highest rated player ever recruited by Ball State. We should not have lost this game. We should not have lost the Western game. Then there is play calling - really! Coach needs to be willing to make changes. Not sure Neu is capable of this as his player loyalty is strong to a fault.

Since there was a bit of talk last week about the need to get out and support the team, I thought I'd mention this.
Had a friend call me Friday, wanted to know if I was going to the game and if he could tag along. He lives in Muncie and is a big sports fan, but has no relationship with Ball State. Knew of several of our players (Hunt, Jones) from high school athletics but was really interested in seeing Steele.
By the third quarter he'd seen enough of handing the ball off to Steele. Started joking that if Steele ran the ball for more than 3 yards the coaches would take him out because it was screwing up their game plan.
I doubt he'll want to accompany me to any other games this year. Doesn't seem like our brand of ball does much to attract new fans.

I dont see us changing from Paddock. First, Neu sticks with his choices seemingly for better or worse. Second, the entire team seems to love and support Paddock. Hunt was asked about him in the postgame and he said he would never say a bad word about Paddock.

Started joking that if Steele ran the ball for more than 3 yards the coaches would take him out because it was screwing up their game plan. Spot on for last week. Every play was a 3-4 yard run or a 3-4 yard pass. Today we took more shots and got a clear explanation why we havent been taking many shots. I love Neu and am rooting hard for him, but we have never gotten the “nfl quarterbacks coach” quarterback play I expected from him.

I don't see Neu changing QBs either, but aren't we now to the point where we could play Blazek without burning his redshirt? Isn't it four games that you can play and still redshirt?
Of course, I've advocated for the use of Kelly also.
I'd probably throw them both out there a little at this point. If Paddock is the team guy everyone thinks he is, he won't make a fuss and he'll be behind his teammates.
Plus, you've got Semonza coming in next year. Get a look at Blazek and Kelly in action so both the players and the coaches and make better decisions when (or before) next year arrives.

That being said I 100% agree with you that I doubt he changes this year if he does it will be disguised with an injury to paddock

Attendance was pretty good today but the product sucked and yes we are a boring team to watch for the most part.
