I don't see Neu changing QBs either, but aren't we now to the point where we could play Blazek without burning his redshirt? Isn't it four games that you can play and still redshirt? Of course, I've advocated for the use of Kelly also. I'd probably throw them both out there a little at this point. If Paddock is the team guy everyone thinks he is, he won't make a fuss and he'll be behind his teammates. Plus, you've got Semonza coming in next year. Get a look at Blazek and Kelly in action so both the players and the coaches and make better decisions when (or before) next year arrives. yes 4 games without burning redshirt.

The offense isn’t remotely dynamic or creative and has no margin for error. It’s Steele between the tackles 90% of the time. We have no change up back. Paddock can’t hit on much at all downfield and continues to miss high or behind on intermediate stuff. He’s a one read qb and is going to throw it to that first option even if it’s double or triple teamed. Rarely do our wrs win against coverage and if they do the ball isn’t on time and accurate. A very frustrating offense to watch and it puts our defense in terrible situations. Our team shoots itself in the foot far too much and is making the same mistakes as 8 weeks ago. illegal crack back blocks killing big gains 2 weeks in a row? Bad Ints. Bad snaps inside the 10? What are we doing?

We still have a chance to get to a bowl game. Our defense is playing well & the teams in the MAC are all in the same boat. Someone commented we could be 1-7 we could also easily be 7-1. This is a medicore team to date. They play up & down. The most likely scenario is finishing the year 6-6 however improvement in the offense we could win out also no improvement lose out. Don't give up on them they have shown they can come back from being behind. They need a spark & I hope they try some different plays & players the last month.

I always had the opinion that Neu was STRONGLY prodded to fire that DC.
But what do I know? Less than nothing.

Paddock has 3 straight games with under 200 yards passing. Problem is that he threw for over 400 in the NIU game before this skid in passing. That game alone and comeback probably bought him the starting nod for the remainder of the season.
We certainly need a spark or some sort of game plan change moving forward. Only Tuesday night games now so I wonder if that will change how we prepare? I have been pleasantly surprised with our defense the past few games. They need some major help from our offense in a hurry.

Almost half of the yards in the NIU game came in the fourth quarter and OT. And since it seems like we've been playing from behind most of the season, I think maybe we'd also find more passing yards in the second halves of other games. Is that because Paddock gets more focused after we're down? Is it because we open up the playbook a little more when we're absolutely forced to? Or is it because opposing defenses back off because the don't think our dink-and-dunk passing game is much of a threat by that point?

Since there was a bit of talk last week about the need to get out and support the team, I thought I'd mention this. Had a friend call me Friday, wanted to know if I was going to the game and if he could tag along. He lives in Muncie and is a big sports fan, but has no relationship with Ball State. Knew of several of our players (Hunt, Jones) from high school athletics but was really interested in seeing Steele. By the third quarter he'd seen enough of handing the ball off to Steele. Started joking that if Steele ran the ball for more than 3 yards the coaches would take him out because it was screwing up their game plan. I doubt he'll want to accompany me to any other games this year. Doesn't seem like our brand of ball does much to attract new fans. This is BSU sports. Whitford had a boring product for several years. Before that Billy Taylor had an even more boring product. Aside from the covid year aberration, Neu has had a boring and very undisciplined product. I had multiple times during the UConn game where I about fell asleep.

I mentioned in this thread earlier in the week that I had concern about the third phase of the game. These two teams are very similar and the third phase could determine the game. Well a blocked PAT on top of TWO turnovers in the red zone and it’s a loss for the Cardinals. We have zero margin of error and in close games, which most of them have been, it comes down to how efficient we can be on offense and well we all saw how that turned out yesterday.

We ain’t got the 2008 oline. We cannot rely on Steele to win games. There’s got to be more diversity and punch in the offense, but, there isn’t. Everyone in the stadium knows where the ball is going and if we can’t block it’s a 3 yard gain or less. Every time. Having to pass has become a major issue and you know it’ll be a dysfunctional mess of a throw to a well covered receiver where the defense has a better chance of a catching it than our guy. The game plan yesterday was bizarre. Hey, let’s throw it deep a bunch of times today, into the wind! We’d not really tried that very much all year and now we know why. Do we even have anyone who can run wide? Anyone who can run a cutback? How many times did emu burn us on jet sweeps and Qb keepers? We got nothing. No change up. No curves. Just belt high batting practice fastballs of an offense. A Schudel offense. Not the exciting arena league type offense we thought we’d get with Neu. Just another generation of Lynch offense. And just wait till Joey is our HC!
the offense is boring. The atmosphere is dead. The games run too long with all the penalties and 3 minute media timeouts. There’s no flow. Just a bunch of ragged football full of penalties and sloppy play.
yeah, I’m pissed we lost a game we had no business losing. On Homecoming. That’s how you lose fans. Students won’t come back. And they’re future alums who won’t come back. The consensus of the people sitting around me was we need a different Qb and better play calling. Neither of which we’ll get.

Another funny and sad but true story. This year Delta High school brought in Bill lynch Senior as an offensive advisor Billy was named OC . Bill sits in the Box talks to Billy over the headset. Well Delta had its worst season maybe ever. It’s probably just a coincidences though

We need an overhaul but that would mean throwing out the 1995 chilton repair book and watching fast and the furious. We have 2 drivers on the side but it’s a lot of hard work to rewire the whole system
