If I was making $450,000 as a football coach, I wouldn’t be hitching my fifth wheel to Paddock. But, then again, I wouldn’t be hitched up to a Lynch either. We got what we got. Ain’t going to change. Who would you hitch it to? That's the problem. As a thought exercise, everyone who wants to pull Paddock should answer this hypothetical: we pull Paddock, the wheels fall off, we get blown out by Ohio and lose a heartbreaker to miss bowl eligibility to Miami. We finish the season with three straight losses and a dumpster fire. You're logging in to express your opinion, what do you write? I just want to see what the other qbs are capable of. This passing offense is so hard to watch right now. You're right, it might not work out. What do we have to lose though? The passing offense can't be any worse right now. Maybe Blazek would have hit a wide open Tyler for a touchdown late in the game. Maybe Kelly could have opened up the offense with his ability to run. Who knows, but what we are currently watching from Paddock is atrocious. Sure, we might squeak out one more win, but I would rather find out what we have for the future.

Just put in a package for a backup and see if we can profit. Doesn’t have to be the whole game. Other thought—- if the other guys just can’t play, why did we recruit them?

Either give to Steele 50 times a game or try a different Qb. Seems we have a kid who could make plays with his feet but he’ll never get a chance. And, we absolutely must recruit some wr who can win against press coverage. Game went pretty much like last years did with the offense unable to make key plays. Next goal up is to just get bowl eligibility with winning the division by the wayside. Yet another game we could have won. As of right now, Steele is third in the nation in rushing and second in carries (that will change when other backs get in their 10th game this weekend) so it is not out of the realm of possibility that they would give him the ball even more. Watching the game plan and how they market the program they seem to be more focused on individual accomplishments than team goals. Have to admire Steele: from what I am told he is so beat-up that he does not really practice during the week and Pemberton is getting all the reps. We have change of pace guys in the running back room and change of tempo in the quarterback room but you’re right that they will never see the field in a game. (No way we don’t see several of those kids in the portal.) Neu/Lynch won’t change their approach. Why don’t we see more Koziol? Press coverage on WR’s and spying/doubling Steele (this is what Toledo did in the second half) is what they will be saying in the defensive rooms for the rest of the season…whether it’s two games or three games.

QB
Not sure if we become a dumpster fire changing QBs
Paddock is 115/127 in FBS quarterbacks and next to last in MAC quarterback ratings.
Rolling the dice with someone else might not make a significant negative difference.

Have you seen the Dr Pepper commercial with the dude skipping rocks? Are you the guy with face paint or the beeatch screaming hysterically “he’s lost it”?

I'd like to see what they can do too, but based on reports from people who have watched it sounds like Kelly isn't the answer and Blazek is similar to Paddock. What we have to lose is the team chemistry and the leadership Paddock brings. Benching Paddock could cause Neu to lose the team (if the team blames Paddock it could have the reverse effect as well though). Last year we wanted Plitt benched for Paddock. We now can see that Paddock wasn't the answer last year and I think neither Blazek nor Kelly are the answer this year. If any report out of camp was that Blazek was the next Peyton Manning then I'd be in favor of benching Paddock as well, but I see viable arguments for Paddock being the best choice. And to be clear, I could see Neu sticking with Paddock even if everyone was saying Blazek was awesome. If Paddock can get us to a bowl I'd take it. My bigger concern is that Neu will not actually open up competition for the QB spot next year.

Are we back to a coach with a history of being an expert in QBs not being able to recruit or develop a QB? 🤔

And I assume all of that to be true, just by common sense. I will never understand why we don't integrate other backs into the offense. We used to be able to use more than one back quite effectively. The trio of Jones/Tye/Marcus did great down the stretch and in the bowl we won once Huntley went down. Why can't we do that now? The offense has ONE gear and once that gear is stopped we got nuthin else and we try nuthin else. That's a Neu/Lynch problem and yes, some good talent in the RB, QB, and maybe even WR rooms will be leaving soon.

The fact that the team has the chance to win 6-7 games is an accomplishment most did not expect.
However, IMO the team is where it is because of the defense and Steele. I had hoped Paddock might be something unexpectedly special, but I only truly expected decent and we aren't even getting that. "Decent" would have won last night's game.
I believe there have been two moves during Neu's tenure that are the foundation of most of the team's success. One was replacing Neal with Plitt. The other was firing the old DC.
I don't think Neu made either of those moves willingly.

Give one of the backup QB’s a drive or two. That won’t destroy team chemistry and might actually provide a spark. I do agree that our WR’s have been very disappointing and also deserve some blame for the poor passing game. TE’s are our most dangerous threat, but we need more dynamic plays from the WR’s. No separation, lack of effort, average hands, poor play. Hard to argue otherwise.

Correct me if I'm wrong but we rarely/never play action fake to Steele. The defense keys on him so much wouldn't this open things up?

I don't think Neu made either of those moves willingly. I've really wanted to like Neu from day one. In fact, I loved the hire in the beginning, but now I just see him as a decent recruiter and a good lockerroom/ culture guy, but a horrible decision-maker, really bad strategist, and a guy that has near zero (not quite as bad as Whitford, but close) social equity with campus or the community. I personally think his inability to develop Riley Neal speaks volumes. I know Lembo did some damage to Riley's psyche, but I would've thought Mike was just the right person to bring him along. This is not going to sit well, but I think Riley was the most physically gifted QB we've ever had. Maybe not quite the toughest and definitely not the smartest, but he and Jeremie Tyler are two of the biggest coaching gaffes in BSU history. And before you say he sucked, we saw multiple flashes of brilliance from Riley before Pete tried to reel him in for whatever reason, so the ability to excel was in there. Riley could both run and sling it, but somewhere along the way his talents were diminished and/ or not used and his will to win died. As for the current QB situation, I'd like to know what the real deal is, because Paddock is just awful in really every way. Is Neu that loyal, is our offensive scheme meant to diminish the role of the QB (sure seems like it), are the recruits not really that good, or have we just sucked at developing them? Or....all of the above? Steele, look folks, he's as good as gone in my eyes. Then Neu has nothing, nada, zilch, zero. Can you imagine this team without Steele???
