In this day and age, for teams to succeed they need a good one on one finisher. Boogie played that role today.
Amazing what a little discipline from coaches can do…and….
Whitford was a joke!

A few stream of consciousness notes:
- well, that was fun!
- Great to see the Cards win that kind of game... When things aren't at all going right, just figure out a way to win. Rarely happened in the last 20 years
- Officials totally ruined the flow of that game and raised the chippiness level. Pretty awful (both ways).
- Great to see comebacks.
- 11 minutes without a FG. Wow. Great lockdown defense.
- Did we ever win a cross division game in the Whit era? I know there are no more divisions, and I know we occasionally did, but...
- it will be a different game in Akron with Xavier back
- Seemed like a ok/decent/small crowd, but this team deserves bigger crowds
- just a lot of correct coaching moves tonight

What a damned fun night! We honestly didn't play very well and the refs were complete assholes, but we grinded like hell! Our D was INTENSE the last 10 minutes of the game. Two observations - our crowd was freaking FIRE and it's very clear to me Akron staff, fans, and players are entitled brats who are used to getting the calls. I've always respected Groce, but I can't stand him now after watching his behavior tonight. The officiating crew seriously needs to be censured. They lost control of that game to a point of near fisticuffs, effed up too many calls to count (Jacobs got fouls on two clean blocks and Sparks got raped all night). The whole crew, but in particular the guy with silver hair thought they were the real show instead of the players. I cannot stand refs like that. The rest of the league has been fearing the sleeping giant awakening. We are getting closer, boys and girls! |

Worth noting we finished the game with 3 timeouts. Lewis manages the game very well.

Isn't it curious how a virtually identical roster can be so much better? Maybe its lunar cycles or vitamins or meditation? Or maybe, just maybe it's having a coach who can you know like coach? And one who kicks ass and takes names.
Sarcasm aside, Groce is accustomed to rolling into Worthen and pushing us around and waiting for us to eventually wilt to a double digit loss. This time, he got outcoached and out toughed by a guy who is even more of a maniac than he is. It was glorious. As bad as the officials were I'll give them credit that they let the players decide the outcome in the last 4 minutes. Both teams were hammering each other and they could have called a dozen fouls on both sides. We out scrapped Akron and Coleman isolated and closed it out. Basheer was tough as hell and combined with Sparks they basically cancelled out Freeman who is the best post guy in the MAC. Hands down. He had 23 and is a stud for only being 6-8 and 220. This team has a lot of games to play and it's only Jan 6th so we shouldn't start a circle jerk just yet but this is the most fun I've had since the 2000 Maui team. Go Mighty Cards and go Mike F*cking Lewis.

I'm so frickin' pissed at Lewis right now.
For year's now I've been perfecting my nice little laid-back BSU basketball fan attitude. You know, the one where you don't get excited about anything too much. Sure you get a good win, but it's followed by 2-3 disappointing losses. Maybe you get a nice recruit but they never develop past their freshman year.
And now, I've got these feelings creeping up in my gut ... they remind me of ... expectations ... winning expectations.
So screw you Mike Lewis. You're about to make me care again.

It’s been a long time since my first thoughts upon waking up were “Damn, that was a great finish for the Cards last night”! My next thought was I should have DVR’d the game so I could watch the last 10 minutes again this morning!!
