A few stream of consciousness notes: - well, that was fun! - Great to see the Cards win that kind of game... When things aren't at all going right, just figure out a way to win. Rarely happened in the last 20 years - Officials totally ruined the flow of that game and raised the chippiness level. Pretty awful (both ways). - Great to see comebacks. - 11 minutes without a FG. Wow. Great lockdown defense. - Did we ever win a cross division game in the Whit era? I know there are no more divisions, and I know we occasionally did, but... - it will be a different game in Akron with Xavier back - Seemed like a ok/decent/small crowd, but this team deserves bigger crowds - just a lot of correct coaching moves tonight I saw similar things. What a damned fun night! We honestly didn't play very well and the refs were complete assholes, but we grinded like hell! Our D was INTENSE the last 10 minutes of the game. Two observations - our crowd was freaking FIRE and it's very clear to me Akron staff, fans, and players are entitled brats who are used to getting the calls. I've always respected Groce, but I can't stand him now after watching his behavior tonight. The officiating crew seriously needs to be censured. They lost control of that game to a point of near fisticuffs, effed up too many calls to count (Jacobs got fouls on two clean blocks and Sparks got raped all night). The whole crew, but in particular the guy with silver hair thought they were the real show instead of the players. I cannot stand refs like that. The rest of the league has been fearing the sleeping giant awakening. We are getting closer, boys and girls! I will say Lewis intimidated the officials a little when he bought that technical. There was just a hint of "homering" that followed his well-timed outburst. My wife thinks Michael looks like a professional wrestler dressed in a suit.

Nice win. First Toledo, now Akron? A team we haven’t beaten in years? Full transparency here - that’s the first Ball State basketball game I’ve watched from start to finish in over a decade. I’m not local anymore, so games are harder to find and also I’m more of a football fan, but this new coach has brought new energy and excitement that I want to jump on board and see what this team can do. I remember going to Worthen when I was a student and I would get frustrated because I couldn’t convince any of my friends to come with me to watch. It would be an amazing home court advantage if we could ever fill the stands - could you imagine? Onward to 8 in a row!

University of Akon? Did the Star Press editors move to Akron?
We last beat Akon er Akron in 2019. They did have a 5 game winning streak against us.

To be brutally honest it has been hard to watch the Cardinals the last few years standing around, turnover after turnover, outrebounded, out hustled and out coached, players not improving. I love this team in every category. They keep improving, can take a gut punch, and deliver. This week alone two hard fought victories on national tv against some of the best MAC teams. I can only envision what lies ahead.

Worth noting we finished the game with 3 timeouts. Lewis manages the game very well. I noticed that too and t didn’t use one until the 1st half was almost over I believe. Also shows he confident in how the team is executing the game plan.

I had mentioned earlier about the lack of discipline showing up eventually in many of the MAC games. Akron's discipline finally disappeared in the last ten minutes and they panicked and began playing "hero ball" according to Groce. Our discipline/resolve only got stronger in the last ten minutes. If this same game scenario was played out last year BSU would have had ample opportunities to play "hero ball". So proud of this team. Jihad reminds me of the guy who transformed into the incredible hulk right before our eyes. Sparks character really showed as he really stepped up with the FT. I also watched Western and Toledo. Western played ten feet off Cochran and Shumate and they made Western pay for it. Western was totally outmatched. Owens-White is contributing and not hurting us when he comes in. Cleary? I think it has finally sunk into Coleman how good he can be playing within a structured team system.

A couple of observations. Did anyone catch how the announcers were saying how no one has scored over 60 points when Akron wins? Well not tonight fellas! Looks like the script was flipped! Also, Freeman is a very good player and Sparks played him tight but he still had a D/D and was the high scorer for the game. Coleman had 6 rebounds second to only Sparks and as already noted, we out rebounded Akron. That tells me our guards are crashing the boards on shots. Lastly Person’s game was not bad last night bc he contributed with hustle and defense. The more I watch him the more I think he’s kind of our version of Dennis Rodman!

He looked shaky with the ball, got beat off the dribble, and we were -11 with him in the game. I do believe he is a good defender and hustler who will contribute, though. Another note about last night, and let me preface by saying I love Sellers, but he did not handle the physicality of last night's game well at all. He hit FT's and the 3 that got us over the hump, but he really struggled overall last night. He was visibly frustrated. I think it's a good thing, because he learned how it's going to be. I like the fact that we won with D and hustle the last 10 minutes. We really struggled offensively and still put up 70 against a very physical team.

Did you guys notice the play where the Akron player undercut Pearson and he got whistled for the foul? He grinded it out despite it being clear he was really hurting.
