thats right.. I was talking to a guy fairly close to EMU program and Bates did allegedly ask about coming back. Problem was he attended zero classes while enrolled So shocking…. I’d be surprised if a bunch of transfers like Bates actually do bother with classes. They ain’t staying so no need for that distraction…. |

Well you enroll in fall never go to class get put on academic probation 2nd semester. Thats how it was my freshman year. Im assuming same rules apply to athletes

You can tell yourself a nice little story about how this is a big swing for the Cavs on a major talent with some flaws, but the truth is that Bates -- once regarded as the best basketball prospect in the world as a young teen -- is not viewed as the same prodigious talent from years ago. You could do worse with a late second round pick, but you could probably do better, too. Grade: C+ (Boone)

In defense of Bates, I will say that I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of college courses I had that weren’t painfully boring to sit through

Well you enroll in fall never go to class get put on academic probation 2nd semester. Thats how it was my freshman year. Im assuming same rules apply to athletes Not quite. Student athletes need at least 6 hours credit each semester and have a GPA equal to minimum graduation requirements. Since he was not a freshman he'd have to have been enrolled in classes that allowed him to reach 40% of requirements in his chosen major by end of sophomore year.
There is also usually some requirement he complete a percentage of enrolled classes.
With online classes that's probably manageable with less effort than you may have observed in your day...
