Maturity is the issue with Coleman. He has no even keel. Good Boogie drills a couple threes and makes some spectacular passes and then gets cocky and Bad Boogie emerges and starts chucking bad shots, throws it all over the yard, gets to jawing, hotdogging and ball hogging. He doesn’t have the self control to calm himself and channel that energy. This is year three of playing college basketball. It’s time to grow up and lead, son. You’ve got plenty of talent but you’re all show and don’t play defense half the time. Keep your focus and stop trying to be Magic Johnson. Use some situational awareness and involve your teammates under control. We will go as far as he leads us and he has to take better care of the basketball. In a three game scenario in Cleveland he has to be more disciplined and control his emotions or we can’t win. It’s that simple. Coleman a big reason we are 17-4 and #4 in MAC standings right now. He had a bad game, which every player on good or bad teams is going to have. Lets see how he and rest of team turns it around next game! No doubt he's better and has helped us, but he doesn't play D and this isn't his only bad game in conference games alone, as evidenced below: 2/10 shooting with 4 turnovers vs CMU 5/15 shooting with 6 turnovers vs EMU 4 turnovers vs Buffalo 1/9 shooting vs Kent 3/14 shooting with 3 turnovers vs Miami 4 turnovers vs Ohio 5/14 shooting vs Akron

I want the Buffalo game back. A loss at home and we were not playing like we had or have. That loss sticks in my crawl more than Ohio! I'll refrain from a John Wayne Gacy reference, but you want things to stick in your "craw," not your crawl. Corrected

Coleman is a 39% fg shooter and takes 26% of our conference fg attempts About half of his shots are 3pfga. Hits just about 39% of them. 3rd leading rebounder and in FT%. Leads in steals. Coach plays him 35 min a game. The last is best indicator he is doing overall good job.

Thanks for your sanity. Lewis has trust in him and so do I. Cardinals are off to their best start in 20 plus years. Jaron Colman has had a huge impact on the 17-7 and 8-3 start. Sit back and enjoy their success! Go Cards!!

Let's just admit we won in spite of Coleman this time, not because of him. Which, is a good thing for the team to learn. Coleman has been up and down if you're honest about his overall performances, but, still much better than he was with Whitford. Lewis has expectations and standards, after all.... But, don't believe for a second Coleman wouldn't get yanked when he gets out of control if there were another guard on the roster who could come in a produce at that level. There isn't, so Lewis has to live with the bad Coleman, ride his ass, and try to bring out the good Coleman.
The TEAM is getting things done and hopefully they can keep it up down a very tough stretch.

I am very much so enjoying the success, but I also understand (quite clearly, actually) this team's limitations. I like to analyze things. It's what I do for a living and it's how my brain is wired.

It certainly was a persistent one for Whitford. Not just for match up flexibility, or foul trouble or giving players a blow. Or in motivating a player who won't practice or conform. Windham seems to have now given two coaches a problem where they may want to see his shooting but can't for some reason. If you can sub you not only can let the bench motivate the ass, so to speak. It needs not be any chronic problem, might just be a player is off needs to refocus and recharge, or just get a word or two from coaches, watch the game to see what he needs to do. Sellers has spent some time on the bench this year, Sparks, and I guess all our starters. No bench and you can't do much of any of that.

Sellers has spent some time on the bench this year, Sparks, and I guess all our starters. No bench and you can't do much of any of that. Windham is a prime example with his disappearing and reappearing acts. Because he's a reserve Lewis can afford to tell him he's not playing because of probably defense and focus. We sure could use Windham as a depth piece and a guy to get a bucket, but we can get by without him. Coleman, we can't get by without, because, well, Windham hasn't earned that type of role. If Bumb were super effective you could move Jacobs to the 2 and put Bumb at the point to get Coleman off the floor for some learning time, but, Bumb hasn't met that expectation either. So, best Lewis can do is ream Coleman during time outs or stoppage in play. Can't really say "come have a seat next to me." There's just no one reliable enough to send out there.

We're also thinking ahead in terms of a tourney situation where you need every player to be extra sharp over a period of days and our margin for error just isn't there for Coleman (or anyone else) to have the kind of night he did at CMU and expect to win in the tourney. LOVE how the team has done to this point; it's amazing and fun. But also understand our limitations could really bite us come MAC tourney time.

Best is win one, hope to have chance game 2.
Game 3 against a team that's hot, probably deeper, probably just better, that's a load. Either we might really need 8 or 9 players or a bench player in 8 spot who could be a difference and have a big game.

Everyone offering a critical assessment of Coleman has acknowledged that his role, contribution and performance are a huge reason for our success. BUT, to whom much is given much is expected. I can promise you the coaching staff and specifically Coach Lewis are having these same types of conversations with Coleman about how to even out his performance and to lead with control and in a way that involves his teammates. When he takes care of the basketball, shares the ball and also scores within the offense, we are very good. If he plays defense with the same passion as he shows when he has the ball in his hands, even better.
I'm having a blast this year watching Lewis wring the best out of this roster and he is still doing that especially with his Alpha, Boogie. For fans who are "satisfied" so far with our performance, good for you. For those of us who are happy with the results and pushing for more, don't sweat it. Being satisfied is what contributed to the fact we haven't won or done shit in the past 23 years. I'll be satisfied when we win the outright MAC title, win the tournament and go to the Dance. Until then, it's only progress.

How many of us would take a 5-4 finish for a 22-11 record with one MAC tourney win & a 4th place league finish right now? I bet everybody wants more although before the season that would have been a great year.

The AD and administration would celebrate 22-11. Outright MAC titles and NCAA runs would require adding bench and another very good player.
We might squeak into a title game and play our ass off and win with a little less, hard to see that one this year. Maybe a 4 seed and the #1 suffers something tragic and is upset in game 1.
We'd still face a tough challenge and have to deal with depth issues.
