Totally disappointing game. First, we stop and watch too many shots on our offensive end. Second, Sellers IMO should be the go to guy more. He has the best 3% on the team- not Coleman. Two of Sellers fouls were absolutely not fouls. Seems like the refs decided to call a different game in the second half. Third, why coach Lewis trusts Coleman is beyond me. Self-inflicted turnovers, selfish shots and a lackadaisical motor cost us a lot in this game. I hope he can change but...
The next two games will be tough without Sparks. Somebody on this roster has to step up and lead.

Somebody on this roster has to step up and lead. IMO Sellers has more athleticism and basketball upside than anyone on the team by far, but he's still adjusting to a more physical and more demanding style. He still avoids contact. He needs to get to the rack, because no one can stop him with his quicks and ups. And he needs to move a little more and take shots when they're there. Sometimes he's hesitant. He's a pretty elite defender too, and Lewis is asking a lot of him on that end of the floor, while Boogie seems to repetitively get a free pass for ole defense. Coleman very negatively impacts this team when he goes dribble-crazy, starts chucking threes early in the shot clock, makes bad passes, and forces himself into the lane in awkward positions. Everyone just stands around at that point because they know what he's gonna do. It's a huge dilemma for Lewis I'm sure. He's in a tough spot with the lack of options.

Coleman is such a huge disappointment! Shooting percent is terrible! Turnovers at the most inopportune time. Out of control too much. If he could put some of his “A” game to gether he can be a BOG help - most of the times he plays out of control.Played a great first half - gave it all back and more in second half. I thought someone suggested his jersey would be hanging from the rafters.

Heres the catch he is talented and can be a difference maker and if we want to win in Cleveland he has to be. Yea I want the guy to be Sellers as well but I dont think Sellers knows he can be that guy yet. Does Lewis force it saying you will shoot 15-20 times a game or continue to let develope Naturally

At this point Coleman has to go into Superman mode. He’s got the ability to score in multiple ways that none of the other guys do, like when he went nuts against Toledo in Cleveland right before he transferred out. We need it now. Sellers is damn good but maybe not ready to take over in the way we need with Sparks out. Coleman and Jacobs together could maybe give us a chance, and if they could get Sellers more consistent then we’d really have shot. I’m hoping Jihad can settle in now and just play after getting the jitters out.
Now we have to hope Coleman’s foot injury isn’t a problem.
And all that said, we will not be ready to be competitive against Akron. We will compete, yes, but we’re fatigued and wounded. Akron has a stud interior player to go with their excellent guards. This ain’t Emu. Akron 78 - BSU 52.
We more than anything just need to keep playing hard and get ready for Cleveland. Winning either of these last two regular season games just isn’t going to happen in our current physical condition. We need a break and hopefully get Sparks back.

I haven't seen that reported anywhere. I didn't see him get injured in the EMU game, but maybe I missed it.

Pretty disheartening article in the SP today. Sparks might not even play in the tourney, Pearson is about "60%," Coleman injured his foot in the second half vs. EMU (he gets more of a pass for his play knowing that), Sellers is banged up, Jacobs is nursing an injury. Some of those things are because of games, some of those things are because we lack depth and they've had to be pushed really hard, and Lewis goes hard in practice. In short, the fantastic win against Kent may have been our last of the season. All we can do is hope Sparks can somehow play in Cleveland but it looks doubtful. If he can play he'd probably be pretty limited in what he could do. So then we have to hope all the other guys who're banged up can regroup for at least one game in the tourney and pull the first one out.
An otherwise stellar season is headed toward a pretty disappointing finish and it's not really due to a collapse in play, it's due to injuries and fatigue. Can someone step up? Windham? Nah. Cleary? He has the athletic skills but not the basketball savvy yet. Bumb? We're playing with maybe 6 guys.

The importance of Sparks. The need for depth to cover injuries and allow resting of starters.
Lewis had better be recruiting so that we have MORE good players next season rather than less. That will determine his success/failure at BSU....as always.

It is sad.
We've seen it in years where we started out short of talent on a roster, when discipline problems created a short bench. In an ideal world we'd have more bench. Still.
It's at least bad luck if not a curse.
Usually I'd expect a chorus of complaints about recruiting being at fault, or coaching error in using the bench, or that our problems are job at excuses and other teams all have the same problems. Maybe not this time.
Even the best roster in history wouldn't really be enough to offset this many starters banged up. And it would be specious to argue we played guys too many minutes. I don't see options there. Lewis recent attempt to rest players in practice backfired.
Let's hope the gloomy SP outlook is wrong.

A chance to say thanks for a wonderful and fun filled season. These guys gave it their all almost every game - could not have asked for more. None of us on this board saw this type of a season. I just want to be there and thank them and coach for their hard work and raising the spirits of old! Go Cards!

The question is, “How many scholarships will Lewis have to work with?” One for sure, maybe two, maybe three. Just not sure and this will hinder his recruiting efforts as he has already signed one good player.

I went back and looked at the pre-season prediction thread and I think most of us expected to be about where we are. The variability with a first year head coach was higher. But I think we were a coach's poll preseason #4 and unless Ohio beats Kent it looks like that's where we're going to finish.
