It may be that Coach knows we're out of the running for a regular season title, so he's resting people to heal up and be ready for the tournament.

These last two games, yeah, you want to win, but, even if you do you're not winning the title and the seeding wouldn't change that much, so Cleveland is the thing, and he's said all season the goal is to be playing your best ball going into Cleveland. Kent was our best ball but it also cost us our stud in the middle and stole our momentum. So now we have to not worry so much about these last couple games and focus heavily on the tourney.

Lewis has to play the team he inherited when he arrived... a fine group of starters but only a few players that can come off the bench. It's a shame the injury bug bit us at this point and my gosh, there aren't many teams that could fully compete with injuries to three starters. Lewis has a tremendous amount of basketball savvy and he will do what's best for the season, the players, and the program going forward.

The importance of Sparks. The need for depth to cover injuries and allow resting of starters. Lewis had better be recruiting so that we have MORE good players next season rather than less. That will determine his success/failure at BSU....as always. 100% Can't do things like take flyers on the Hendriks and Huggins' of the world and waste roster spots. You may have to take a flyer some times. Before the portal that was more true, though.
The big guys who need development now will end up in low level schools, even more in JUCO, D2 or lower. The big schools may also allow some kids to be in a mid major farm system, but it will be a real issue whether the mids can afford to get one or two or at most three years of "development" level play and then lose the real payoff.
We saw this kind of story with R/S grad transfers, but the portal will make it much more common, and a real recruiting gem can now leave after a year.

Well, I trust that Lewis will identify "projects" with far more projectability than what we'd been getting.....

I don't expect many projects, but do expect we recruit a lot of kids who will be college role players, and a lot out of the portal who have been recruited over elsewhere or did not pan out at higher level schools. I am interested in just how much the portal changes things.
We could be recruiting mostly kids who are in college elsewhere.
Still important we recruited HS to meet players earlier and have some connection. Reputation and image of the school needs to be promoted. Plus the core of our roster may be more or less traditional HS recruits. But more and more it appears will be shuffling players and seeing a revolving door.
Overall fewer HS recruits as a result?

Less high school projects for sure.

Yes, but the guys we do have aren’t/weren’t remotely role players. No bench was developed by the previous guy. That’s where Lewis has to find gems.

our starting Pg for three years was made a bench player in a nanosecond under Lewis. He is now our best bench player and barely contributes. We have no bench

Have you considered one of the reasons for a short bench is two red shirts? I am not against red shirting guys, but with a very short bench it may be the reason the bench is so short. At the end of an 18 game MAC season, many teams will have guys who are somewhat beat up. I liked the league when there were only 16 MAC games and every team had a week off. I really like to see the out conference games more the MAC games. Same old, same old just gets very old.
Go Cards!

Star Press article said that we could not finish lower than 4th because Ohio loss regardless of the outcomes of final two games He corrected that. We could finish 5th if we lose both and Ohio wins both. But, we'd still play OU regardless.

As of now we are still in danger of being the #5 seed. The danger isn't anything really to worry about however. Lose out and we play Ohio. Period.

5th seed vs. 4th seed is critical at Cleveland in that it determines what color uniforms you wear, which side of the scorer's table your bench is on, and where you appear on the scoreboard.
It all adds up to an enormous home advantage for #4.

Far more consequential is what the rest of the pairings look like.
Right after whether we're at full strength.
Toledo playing well, but if we're healthy I like playing them better than Kent. So there's a case we want UT to be #1.
