Woodson seemed more enthused about the others. Maybe not all of them. But three newcomers are more highly rated. He has to do more kissing up. Sparks probably needs less of that.

New recruiting strategy you ask any Indiana kid who their favorite college b ball team is. If they say IU or PU you just stope recruiting them

New recruiting strategy you ask any Indiana kid who their favorite college b ball team is. If they say IU or PU you just stope recruiting them For transfers like Sparks, I guess you probably sign them first, then stop recruiting them. You will lose them only if it doesn't work out, and with one time transfers maybe not even then ... BSU needs a reverse strategy to take advantage of the one time transfer. Recruit them hard out of high school. Sometimes win and then inevitably later lose them. Often lose them out of HS to the lure of a big school but then recruit them hard to get them on the rebound. Best we can do.

I think he is going to surprise a lot of you who minimize his abilities and talent. I hope he impacts IU next couple of years.

There is a reason he was double teamed every game last year. The other big guys on the team will make him better as he adjusts to handling more talent that he will face.

The problem I see its paytons not very athletic and he will be matched against some of the most athletic kids in the country. Hes a bull is that enough? Yes. He succeeds if he can improve defense (not just athleticism but anticipation and perfect position) and also has to have IU be willing to play to his strengths in the post where he is a good passer.
He has to defend the post, he can't go out and guard good forwards. If the article is right he is slotted behind another big guy who is not very athletic. Even if he beats this guy and starts, his defense limits IU defensive plans. Without Payton in the lineup they can switch almost everything, with him in the lineup they cannot.
On offense and on defense much of his value is rebounding. That requires he stay near the basket, so if other teams have no post he has to go out and chase. The IU analysts say Woodson wants to go away from so much post oriented play, since they don't have anyone, including Payton as good as IU's departing star post player.

Rob may have hit the nail on the head!
It may prove to be brut strength vs athleticism!

Whereas the Bane thread is like your continuing obsession with the cheerleader homecoming queen who once asked to borrow a pencil from you in 9th grade science class.

Found her on Facebook looks like A mether now. Glad things did not work out

Woodson likes hard workers and guys who will fill whatever role needed to win. Lewis said (accurately) that Sparks will be the best teammate IU has as soon as he walks in the locker room. He doesn’t have the pedigree or the athleticism of some of the more highly touted transfers/recruits but he will work harder than most of them and earn starter minutes even if he doesn’t start. He also has a knack for recognizing his weaknesses and improving upon them. I wouldn’t be shocked if he develops a serviceable 3 point shot to stretch the floor a bit if that is what they ask him to do, but whatever they ask I’m sure he will be all in. He’s a great kid.

"but whatever they ask I’m sure he will be all in. He’s a great kid" Which is one of the biggest reasons I hated to lose him.
