I wish him well and he will continue to be a credit to BSU. "Payton Sparks a transfer from Ball State now in the game".

We worried Sparks was going to have a hard time seeing action. That seems even more true as we go into the season.
I've seen one article on IU's next season roster that didn't even mention Sparks, and in any case they continue recruiting bigs like Bidunga and others in future classes. He's got his work cut out for him to ever see the court, this year or in the future. Especially if Woodson moves away from a post first offense as is expected.

I wouldn't count Sparks out but undoubtedly there will be situations like his where players transfer, then seemingly get buried on the depth chart as others are recruited.
These likely will serve as cautionary tales for mid-major coaches as they counsel future players on transfers. I assume many still will be lured by the bigger NIL deals, but others might decide it's not worth it to sit the bench.

Over past seasons many on this board have discounted the "Star" system as a gimmick to promote good players from established big high schools. A player with the same size and talent from a class 2 or 3 A school would be rated a 2 star or 3 star. It was also stated here that if that 5 star player picked Ball State that they would lose two stars or more. Let us see how Sparks does against these "Marvel" super heroes. It will be a great measuring stick for Sparks to see where he will fit in.

It was also stated here that if that 5 star player picked Ball State that they would lose two stars or more. Let us see how Sparks does against these "Marvel" super heroes. It will be a great measuring stick for Sparks to see where he will fit in. Could be he can compete. We will all root for him. But the big schools live and die by attracting highly recruited players and sending those players on to the pro level.
Those are the kids who will get the PT and hype even if roughly equal if for no other reason. As IU continues to recruit over him in each class his best chance for extended PT is for one or more of the highly recruited players to get their chances and be injured or fail.
What bothers me here is that while the B10 still has a place for the banger inside, it is not a preferred role for recruits , and not for most of big time basketball. IU will very likely modify its recent post oriented play.
IU wants Sparks to play out of his area of greatest strength on offense and he will have to defend well out of his comfort zone against opposing players who want to play outside. If the giant player at PU is perceived as needing to do this even as POY and wants to play more outside the low post, it's not a good sign for Sparks.

If IU puts Sparks out of his area then Sparks will have to transfer again to get to play.

I wish Sparks had gone somewhere other than iu. I’m done with him but he’s an irresistible subject for our resident iu fanboys
