But, don’t you think a Lewis will be on the first train out of a muncie when a better opportunity presents itself? It is certainly far easier for players to switch to a new school than it is for a coach to get a new job coaching. Especially now, since the academics really do not matter. Athletes don't even worry about their program or academic progress. I think the schools still have the 930 and graduate 50% baseline to meet but who knows if the NCAA is even keeping track. Hopefully they can take that NIL money and invest in something more than a new , dope/fire Tat or a car that loses value when you drive it off the lot.

I hate IU but for conversation purposes if we were to become an IU farm team then we should demand IU NIL money. You eventually want this kid at IU then you give uscthe NIL to originally get him. That's a helluva lot better idea than your gang bang one

(Sorry if this was posted already - but it fits within this thread)
speaking of IU, Dusty May (head bball coach of FAU), was the IU basketball manager when Michael Lewis played at IU. Wow.

The MAC could become a AAA farm system for teams in the BIG. Imagine the IUBSU HoosierCardinals breaking training camp in November at their AA affiliate University of Indianapolis campus........
They get Payton and they are recruiting a number of mid major prospects.
Sparks gets to play at IU, but he's being recruited over before he even signs, they are looking at 2 other transfers at center.

That's exactly what I predicted would happen. They took him really fast, which signaled to me that he was an insurance policy - that they would be hoping to recruit over him. He could range from a practice player to 10 mins per game to a starter depending on their recruiting success. If he's a starter or plays 15+ minutes I'd say IU is in big trouble, but that's just my personal opinion.

He will benefit from practice against better big guys, and I am not counting him out.

I have no doubt IU would like to recruit over Spark's head. Are they likely to? I think that's questionable and that Sparks may play quite a bit. But I have no idea who they are likely to get since I dont follow IU recruiting at all.

Yep, interesting that the first two players mentioned in the Thursday, Indpls Star I-U portal recruiting article, were centers.

I think people are not giving Sparks enough credit. We've had plenty of stiffs on our frontline in the past and Payton is not one of them. Sure he has some limitations but 22 double doubles, FOY and he's freaking smart, a super hard worker and a model teammate. He's going to work his ass off like he always does and sure, he may come off the bench or have some other bigs to compete with for PT but I'll bet he will see the floor more than many think. I hope he kills it there.

He does need to refine his game a bit.

It was mentioned more than once in the tourney that the Big Ten was somewhat overrated this year. Purdue and IU sure added credence to those thoughts.
