Let me understand, with the new transfer rules, teams like Ball State are now upper level Junior College programs for the rich and powerful? Sad day for college sports. Lewis, like many other coaches come to a Ball State to build a resume or turn a program around? Not sure how you do this in this new world of college sports. Kids come in, show they may have the talent for a BIG time program and move on after a year or two to maybe fill the need of an IU? A Ball State scrambles to fill a need! Can they, after taking a kid that excelled, fill those gaps? Not sure. Not sure you rebuild a Ball State to the sweet sixteen level ever again! We, and schools like us, are now nothing more than a glorified JUNIOR COLLEGE for basketball talent. Sad. Sad. Sad. Yep, mid-majors will never succeed in the current environment.... Not a program outside the power conferences will ever again reach the sweet 16 or final 4. BSU might as well give it up. www.cnn.com/2023/03/18/sport/march-madness-shock-results-spt-intl/index.htmlI will say this - one year wonders will still happen, but no mid major is going to build a year in/year out competitive program now - FAU has coaches recruiting their players now and they are still in the tournament.

But it won't matter to the FAU coaches who likely will also be recruited to better paying jobs after the Final Four. In fact, they might just take some of their players with them to their new locales.

ok quickly back to tough players. I was not the fan I am now but what about Cam Echols he always seemed tough to me when I saw him play and didnt he at one time have the record for most rebounds in a game at worthern. Why is he never mentioned in our trips down menmory lane

His senior year was a bit of a letdown, though.

His senior year was a bit of a letdown, though. Struggled at the rim to the point where he didn't even want to attempt it...leading to an endless series of fade away jumpers. Not tough. Besides that, he arrived after the point where BSU stopped trying to have a winning program

Michael Lewis will always be loyal to the IU program. Sparks had a desire to play in the Big10. Perhaps Lewis feels that if I cannot have Sparks on his team, then he'd rather see him helping IU and helped that deal happen.
Maybe the approach that Lewis will take is he knows his top talent will leave BSU, so why not become a minor league affiliate of IU? Use it as a marketing ploy to HS seniors with lots of talent, but aren't getting Big10 looks. Come to BSU, I will work your ass into a Big10 level player, hit the portal, and I'll work with IU to get you there for your last two years of eligibility. Might be the new norm.
It won't work for guys already in the transfer portal, but guys leaving IU because of playing time may come to BSU.

The MAC could become a AAA farm system for teams in the BIG. Imagine the IUBSU HoosierCardinals breaking training camp in November at their AA affiliate University of Indianapolis campus........

I hate IU but for conversation purposes if we were to become an IU farm team then we should demand IU NIL money. You eventually want this kid at IU then you give uscthe NIL to originally get him.

Little control over where players go aside from when the coaches call for a "reference". I think Sparks' old coach from back in the day was influential. Whit coached with one of IUs Assistant coaches for a while. Maybe something there. Sparks seems like a guy with his own mind. Hope he does well there. Nice young man and helluva player for sure and think he's earned the right to go for it.

It was fun watching the giant killers. Funny how the transfer portal appears to benefit the huge names, but they were getting taken down by the teams some of those players transferred from! I'm a fan of Dusty May and the guy from Kennesaw. They've got reputations of being kinda soft with their players but somehow it works for them. So many different styles of coaching. I'm just looking forward to seeing who we bring in next year. Will be awesome to keep building with Sellers and Jihad since it doesn't look like they're going anywhere!!
