Watched the Toledo preview by Neu. He kept talking about how we started out planning for two all American tight ends over and over again. He knew from prior to the start of the season that he only had one! He should have made the adjustment back then and it should not be a part of the discussion now! The defense is good enough if the offense could produce and it is not! Hatcher is not the guy. He seems to be saving the Cal Kid for next year. Kelly needs to start and they need a complete package for him. It’s getting too late to keep talking about adjusting, you just need to adjust. Even if we had both TE, and Robinson, and Pemberton, we’d still have the same oline and Qbs and play calling, so would it really have made that much difference? I’m not so sure. it was pretty obvious after the Ga Southern game we had serious issues. Mike should have gotten serious about our identity at that point. If not then after we got woodshedded by WMU. 6 games in is a little late to figure out maybe we aren’t on the right path. But, Mike tends to be slow with adjustments in general. |

Best news it's supposed to rain may prevent them from passing & the QB's speed won't be such a factor. So we start Spegal & have a joyful Homecoming!

Whatever we think about playcalling, and despite some plays that require head scratching, or battering head against wall...play calling always looks better with better players. It also looks better when executed. And when players avoid bonehead choices.
I'm not selling Lynch as innocent of wrongheaded choices. But a perfect game plan and playcalling would be destroyed by errors and with our talent maybe not good enough to beat GSt or the others if we fell behind.
I don't see potential for explosive offense. To be winners this year required defense and scratching out wins. We might have need an occasional explosive play, but it doesn't seem to me we were ever going to be a team winning high scoring shootouts.
That Neu banked on execution and ball control as his best bet, and that has failed was a decent bet going in.
When I hear call for radical change, Plan B doesn't fit this team very well. It's sad, we can hope changes can be found, but I don't see an answer to this mess as likely.
My optimistic scenario is we stop looking totally lost and stay in a game, maybe steal a couple if teams don't get prepared well.

When you are 1-6 (after Toledo), switching to any plan can really NOT be any worse.
Sticking with the SAME plan is not a logical strategy going forward.

There are worse plans...Switching to wide open balls to wall passing, for example, would be bad. We have worse personnel for that. Identify what works really badly, yes, add some things, yes. Neu sounded like he has right approach in presser but the question is how much can he get done. I fear we have a bad team with little upside. When I hear change, I agree, but I'd change to emphasize execution, maybe a simpler offense. I have not much confidence any change gets enough done. And I disagree "anything" is better. I ain't happy with any of that. |

I dint care if we lose every temaining game by 40 give us something to watch that not line weve had You must have the premium internet wifi sports package and it's easy to say sitting in hot tub on cruise ship...with drinks to deaden the pain if the new exotic offense they throw in overnight blows up... I'll be on the frigging 40 yard line probably sitting in the rain on a seat where they won't give me a chair back. But apart from that, I agree on different but doubt coach or staff would prefer novelty for our amusement if it comes with new errors, greater losing margins. What I want to see different is no more, or fewer wide open opposing receivers, fewer flags down when we've made a good play. Let's try running plays that have a chance, running them as drawn up, new or old I don't care. Oh and no more throwing the ball into traffic yards short of the marker. The SP guy detailed a few of those stupid plays, some based on stupid coach calls. Eliminate those. That's what I want. I'll at this point cheer for a well played loss. Neither of us likely to get what we want. |
