Bell and Middleton in the portal this morning. Very disappointed, but not surprised by Middleton. We needed Bell to go! Bell needs to take Adams with him and I am surprised about Middleton. Waiting to see if Sparks hits the portal for a second year in a row. |

Maybe Lewis told Middleton he wasn't going to fit the style he wants to play. Or, Middleton didn't actually like being coached hard despite getting to play quite a bit. Or maybe it's a disaster to lose our most productive and most promising freshman. |

Or maybe it's a disaster to lose our most productive and most promising freshman. I'll offer another explanation. Didn't Middleton receive a scholarship when Coleman left late in the summer? If so, that implies to me he wasn't offered or recruited seriously by anyone else. Maybe Middleton now views this as he chance to get courted and receive the offers he didn't get a year ago? |

Further, does it even matter anymore? Programs across the country are losing their most promising players. We aren't unique in that and we aren't going to be immune no matter what we do/how we're coached/how much we win. This is how it is now and when you recruit kids you take the risk that they'll see $reener pastures elsewhere. At this point all that matters is how well Lewis recruits the kids who left other programs for greener pastures/better situations/whatever. Unless we come up with a F-Ton of money to entice our best talent to stick around they just aren't going to unless they aren't wired to need be re-recruited and fawned over every damn year.

Philly and Muncie could not be more different Possible, but I think warm weather kids are the ones who miss home after a lovely winter & spring in Indiana. Philly has equally lousy weather. I am going to default on any portal transfers to two main reasons with the caveat that I may be completely wrong. 1.) They had a good year so they want paid and a chance to play for a program that is a proven contender. We didn't make the top eight in a one-bid league. 2.) They can't stand the constant heat from the coach. You think you know what it's like until he climbs up your ass for 6 straight months. And the better you are the more intense the lashings. No inside knowledge, just pure speculation based on Knight's approach. Still feel like the difference is IU was a top 5 program for most of his tenure and you endured the culture because the reward was so great. I still prefer Mike to our last three coaches but a tempering of the blown gasket approach would be preferred. |
