Starting a season thread here for the Lady Cards.
After two solid performances, the Lady Cards kind of lay a turd against Chicago State arguably the worst team in the country. The Cardinals win by 29, but if you watched it didn't seem like it. Last year we won by 66 points. We gave Chicago State their best offensive performance of the year, had 17 turnovers, and played the sloppiest i've seen in years.
Not concerned with the talent of this team, just a really weird and "off" performance

Chicago St. hit some open 3s but I thought we gave good effort Estel was really good Becki good and Annie good We outrebounded them for a change. We better be ready to go against UNI as they gave Iowa a game for a while.

It was a little concerning how easily Chicago St. broke our full court press early on, multiple times. Usually we are pretty solid on that. Not sure what was goign on |

Yes we were a little off the first half but there was one play that really got my attention. BSU rebound and two passes covering the length of the floor for two pts. It was a work of art.

MAC has 4 teams in the top 25. Toledo 5th BSU 6th Kent and then BG at 24. Northern Iowa 8th. We had and will continue to have trouble with big 6-3 to 64 players. Hampton really came through for us today 19pts. Northern played good half court defense making us work for every shot and we did 75-64.

Lady Cardinals move up one spot in the Mid-Major rankings to number 5 and are receiving one first place vote.
Big game this afternoon against IUPUI, who may not be as good as people thought they would be but will still put up a fight.
After IUPUI, the Cardinals will face 6 excellent teams (4 from P5) in a row. This is the toughest stretch of any season in recent memory for the Cardinals and perhaps any MAC team. I think we have a good chance of going 3-3 and maybe 4-2 if we catch Georgia sleeping. Will be good tests to really see what we are made of.

I can't se how we get much higher in the polls. Gonzaga had height and athleticism to go with it and drilled Toledo.ND put 113 points on Chicago State last night. We have a fast quick team that can press. Most teams so far have been slower and their lack of depth in the fourth quarter really shows up. However quick athletic guards like those of Power 5 can break a press and kill us at the basket. I would still press to slow those teams down but maybe start it at the 10 second line which would give us a better chance of protecting the basket. The game against ND last year was over in the first quarter as they hit 3 pointers from everywhere including the parking lot. Hoping this year they are a little off. IUPUI is always a challenge and a bad shooting night on our part could make this a closer game than anyone expects.

I think Georgia is the only team we are realistically likely to beat. Notre Dame and Uconn will be great for experience and to test out some new things. IMO Toledo should NOT have lost to Cincinnati. Toledo is still the team to beat in the MAC, but the Cincinnati game may have exposed some things |
