No way Neu leads us to a bowl game with all these transfers.

Back in the day, starter turnover/change may have been at a 2-3 year clip. Continuity. If colleges can maintain the 2-3 today, even with the portal, you’d think there would be higher likelihood of success. We seem to be in a more 1-2 year cycle. Feels like it.

If this was Kelly’s breakout year, he’d be in portal now.

No way Neu leads us to a bowl game with all these transfers. We’re gonna have these transfers every year now. The key is backfilling well. We were 12 points from 7 wins this year. Make just enough plays last year and this year and we’re bowling the 5th year in a row.

I’d “invest” in qbs (Semonza) and boundary players. (Wr/cb). Running backs, you can get good ones without dropping too much on them. A good with vision and a good oline will work. Honestly we could have been productive if say, Pemberton was getting all the carries had he not gotten hurt. I even felt good about barfield. We don’t need A thousand yard rusher, we could do fine with 3 guys who combined for over 1k. We went Steele heavy last year and despite him Being Superman it didn’t matter. Balance is what we lack. All of that makes sense, Cardfan. In fairness, the NIL + Portal has completely changed how you build out a team and if you're on the margins (bottom of the MAC, little NIL money) as we are, you're in for a real battle. Still you would imagine that the balanced route you suggest would be a way to go because if can't give kids NIL money then you have to give them opportunity. And when you don't they're gone and that's true in just about collegiate sport where NIL money is involved.

We were in the top-15 in the country this past season in time of possession (32:22) per game. Up from 27:13 in 2022. We had the biggest YoY increase in time of possession this past season for all FBS teams. This was the result of 2 things mainly. We ran the ball nearly 6 times more per game than in 2022 while we threw the ball nearly 15 times less.
Certainly, giving our defense more rest helps them be more productive. Our defense was 16th in opponent plays per game (63.6). Down from 83 last year !! The biggest net difference in the country. We were also 34th in 3rd down defense (34.81%), down from 41% last year.
To me the one of the most important stats that points a more holistic picture is Yard Per Point. We were also ranked 129 of 133 teams in yards per point (18.8). This metric suggests we didn't get timely turnovers to give us a short field; nor did we have special teams returns to give us shorter fields. We also didn't score enough points for the yardage we gained.
Don't get me wrong, the defense was great. They, on average, did a good job on 3rd down getting off the field. At the same time our style of offense helped them by keeping them off the field.

yards per point (YPP). Now THAT is a creative stat. I like it.

Seems like LYNCh/NEU is the word. No way we continue calling the offense like we did without heavy Neo input (at least I would hope he had a say or strong opinion).

add clayton coll I thought he was out of eligibilty maybe a grad or med redshirt Was kinda hoping he’d stay but he’s married and has his degree. honestly I am good with these guys moving on to see where they can go because it opens up opportunities for the good young talent we have. It’s not like we were super successful with the guys who are leaving anyway. (The common denominator being the coaching…)

Kelly is not Jordan Lynch but BSU had that type of team (NIU Lynch era) the last 4-6 games. Lynch struggled in the passing game, NIU had a strong running game and defense, and Lynch had the ability to break for a TD, running, nearly anywhere on the field. Lynch threw for 6000 yards and 49 TDs his last two season at NIU. He was truly a dual threat. Kelly is not.

Even during Lynch’s final season, he looked incredibly uncomfortable passing - awkward. He was a runner, a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate, and he kicked a$$. Not saying Kelly can be like that - but the best of the MAC struggled to stop Kelly. It is what it is. Kelly is special. Let’s dump him. LOL
