“Lynch was offensive coordinator for the Commodores in 2022 and 2023 and was the quarterbacks coach in 2021. In 2023, Vanderbilt ranked last in the SEC in total offense with 318.92 total yards. The Commodores also ranked 110th in FBS with 22.8 points per game.” Carrying on the Lynch tradition.

Couple thoughts:
-A 2009 BSU FB team coached by Hoke would have sucked. -Paul Schudel had teams that sucked. -Mike has built a solid culture; and he’s a respected guy. This is not true at many institutions. -The portal is exponentially changing CFB. Teams are sort of resetting each year. -As Mitchell noted, we were a few points from being 6-6, in year we had injuries at key positions. -We seemed to figure out the O with Kelly. And we have Cooper. -Mitchell articulated an intelligent approach, formula, about how he envisions collegiate athletics that I personally love.

Well, I'm sure it didn't help his case that Vandy was the worst offense in the SEC, leading the team down to a 2-10 overall record and an 0-8 mark in the conference.
But, sounds like perfect timing for a Lynch family reunion in Muncie.
God, we're doomed.

And so what does this mean for the other Co-offensive coordinator ? If they were truly "CO". he certainly doesn't deserve to be PROMOTED to THE offensive coordinator. Number 1: Do not hire a Lynch Number 2: Do not promote an existing staff member to the OC position Number 3: Hire a successful OC from some other Group of Five school or FCS division Number 4: Pay what it takes to get the right person. Whatever it is, it will cost less than what firing Neu would have cost.

Vandy's coach is probably in his final year in 24 barring a miracle. So no surprise with Joey getting the ax. Agree no more Lynches on the Neu staff & Coach Neu is in same situation as Vandy's coach in 24.

Like the AD’s point about building a schedule that allows the football team a better chance for success. Maybe just one Power 4 team that isn’t rated in the Top 25. I’d like to see Indiana State every year. The Power 4 teams get more Tv money in one game than our entire football budget for the year. How would you ever expect to be competitive and the gap keeps getting bigger. We should be competitive with any of the Group of Five teams, if that were the case I’d be a happy camper. The last six games of the year were fun games, we were in the position to win them all and to me that’s all we can ask for. I’m hoping Neu keeps Stockton and finds a Stockton type OC to lead the team back to a top position in the MAC. if he does, we will see success for the Cards moving forward.

The contradiction is his commitment to a larger budget to increase quality. I don't know what his plan is to replace the million dollar revenue loss.
If the answer is to rob other programs, you have to question that.
It's not the loss to the P4 team that is the problem, nor is another "warmup" game going to increase quality, even it produces another win.

Mitchell has taken to the excuse-based BSU sports culture like a duck to water. He has also saved himself future work by creating a template that can be re-used for any failing coach in any sport. All he has to do is change the name of the sport and the coach, and a couple specific details, like about the bowl game. You can bet he has this saved in his document folder. Expect to see it again. Not that I can think of any other particular BSU coaches who are currently underperforming.

Mitchell just proves with his critique that his powers of observation are insufficient for the position he was given. I’m glad that Neu has built this great culture and that the players have the utmost respect for him. That makes all the losing so much more acceptable and even makes me feel bad for not being more acceptable that a losing culture should be embraced and appreciated.

Hopefully the new OC isn't a Lynch or from an unsuccessful FCS program. And hopefully do not make having roots back to Indy metro programs a prereq.

"The culture in the locker room was really strong." Too bad we don't play the games in the locker room.
