There are 16,000 young men across FBS alone who want to be one of the 2,500 men who makeup NFL rosters (including practice squad). FBS is where you find the top potential/talent, and opportunity. Now, fold in the other 80,000 college players (FCS to NAIA), who have representatives within NFL history, you’ll see that coveted FBS opportunities are very sparse. MAC football, with all of its football history, is a targeted destination for young men who aspire to the highest level of football achievement. There are a million wannabes. All may dream, aspire to the NFL. While FCS and G5 players make it to the NFL. While G5 is FBS, being a MAC FBS player is a low probability way to get there. The MAC is down the list for top players. The portal transfers OUT and UP in the MAC are going to be better than IN. How that adds up to the MAC being better off with the portal is not supported by the argument it's easier to get PT here.... Moreover, while it's true G5 play CAN be a route to that success for some, higher level G5 conferences will attract more talent capable of that NFL success than the MAC schools. That we are weaker and more players can get PT here is a poor argument that those wañnabes actually succeed and that we are somehow better off and reach parity with better conferences.
