Please repeat after me…….we are soft…. we are soft….we are soft…I better stop before I start using the nickname for a cat to describe our players.

This is a bad loss. It shows the team and maybe even the coach are not ready for prime time. We may lose a lot of games. A winning record is probably in jeopardy. Sad!!!

You cant push buttons that are not there we've got the 5 we have and middleton/hendricks. Thats it..... Ride or Die Yeah, this group can conceivably become smarter, but not really much more physical. They can play harder, they can focus and be mentally tough, maybe... Which gets part way there, but the "toughness" issue goes partly to lack of physical strength. Hard to be really tough when the other guy is bigger, stronger, faster. Mike Lewis was unusual to be able to do that as a player, I don't see that trait in any of these players excepting maybe Middleton and Bailey. They are physically mature, good sized guards, good athletes.
Jones needs a year or two but has potential in that respect. As some of the other freshmen become sophomores they might have a chance. Not going to happen this year except maybe the smarter part. Most all of them after all can become smarter... Pearson, Jihad, Anderson just aren't strong physically, are skilled enough to be good players, but not physical, I don't see that changing.
Somebody said it above, Coleman, Sparks, Jacobs and to less degree Sellers all could respond physically to a challenge last year, not that they always did. We miss that.

You cant push buttons that are not there we've got the 5 we have and middleton/hendricks. Thats it..... Ride or Die You’re not wrong. Coach put together a bad roster. Good kids, bad roster and lost two guys that before the season were being counted on for key roles. Have to have strong enough depth to counter injuries. Don’t have it. Have to have both depth to pull guys when they under perform. Don’t have it. Who you gonna put in for guys turning the ball over in key situations? Who you gonna put in when a guy won’t block out, or keep his man in front of him? We got nothing. I will say this; I’m betting Lewis takes steps to have a much different roster next year, one way or another. If he doesn’t he’s toast. And I’m betting some guys will walk on their own. The key? He’s GOT to raise money for NIL and pretty much buy some players. I know he finds that unpalatable but these are the times and this is the reality.

Cardfan agree with the post. I also think the team yesterday played as though they were tuned out or worn out. CMU is no doubt one of the worst league teams. Therefore losing to them at home leads to the conclusion we need to reevaluate our team for the rest of the seasons games. I think this morning that we will be hard pressed to win a road game in the MAC. Finishing .500 for the year looks like a mountain. I would be happy to have both Cleary & Bumalough on the bench right now over what we have. Scariest rhing is this not so much the coach as it is we just don't have the players to win in the MAC this year.

Reevo, you are on the mark!
My Gosh we are soft!!
Hopefully, we lose 4-5 sitting on the bench and are non stop recruiting to the extent possible.
I’m not sure the Knight way of Coaching kids works in these times; I hope Im wrong.

Scariest rhing is this not so much the coach as it is we just don't have the players to win in the MAC this year. The coach is responsible for obtaining those players. My hope would be that Lewis was overconfident in his ability and that of his staff to "coach players up" and thought he could actually change their mentality and win with this group, and that he is sadly realizing the error of that line of thought and can correct it in coming seasons. If he cannot, it will be a relatively short stay in Muncie for Coach Lewis, although I figure he's got a minimum of 2 more seasons to fix things if he can.

We have just enough money to be half-assed at both major sports That’s why Indiana State, Butler, Evansville…..are leaving us behind.

If our bench is any evidence, I think the recruiting plan needs seriously reevaluated.

Ride or Die I will say this; I’m betting Lewis takes steps to have a much different roster next year, one way or another. The two recruits already mentioned look like they would add significant athletic ability, might play bigger than current bench players for sure.
A year would also make some difference with even the same players, worst cases we might see the kind of modest difference we see with Hendricks. That would not be enough. Even with a lot of improvement in the smarts department.
I am optimistic about change with Doughty, Jones, Brown, and maybe Bell who all could physically be better, that should make a bigger difference than with Hendricks since they all start out with a reasonable amount of talent.
Seems very likely though we'll see a couple move on. Right now, Adams and Bell and Hendricks. Watt unless he's going for a doctorate.
Lewis if he gets that NIL will be after that one more difference maker, we have so often missed on. Without getting NIL...

If you're going to recruit kids that are smaller, less athletic, and less talented, they'd better be pit bulls.
