OUCH!! “Power Five programs, having hit their NCAA-mandated 85 scholarship limit, are now adding players as “walk-ons” with collectives footing the bill for a scholarship through NIL. The NCAA permits at least 30 walk-ons. One Power Five collective director, in fact, acknowledged this trend, telling Yahoo Sports that they often “layer on top” an extra $50-60,000 to cover a walk-on’s tuition, books and fees.” I am not surprised, but I doubt those "walk-ons" want to sit on the bench vs. pursuing a starting job in lower P5 or G5 schools. I would rather be a scholarship player vs. "walk-on" regardless of who is paying. Crazy stuff! Not so crazy. You did see the part about $50K didn't you? They're getting a big school shot plus that money.

I would rather be a scholarship player vs. "walk-on" regardless of who is paying. Crazy stuff! Sorry, but I remember the days when Ohio State would have a rooster of 130 scholarship players. Kids, like Sparks, will go to the “BIG” school with a NAME, with the hopes of playing, but sit on the bench for four years. Good talent gone to waste, with the hopes of never playing. They want to soak up the talent in hopes of weakening their opponents. mid-majors have become the minor league of college sports. That’s ok is your willing to accept your role and compete with that understanding. IMO, it’s time for schools like Ball U to admit the truth and stop trying to be or playing the role of BIG TIME college athletics.

We need the big school to pay NIL for players to go to BSU minor league team. Hmmmmm. P5 Pay kids to play and develop at our level in hopes of having ready made contributors when they’re called up to the big club. . Already happens minus the P5 paying them for us. It’s an idea.

In that case, we not only become the place they groom their players ... they groom their coaches here also. Would the big club want Mike Neu and Kevin Lynch grooming their up-and-coming players? I'm thinking probably not. If an indoor practice facility is needed, the big club pays for it. BSU donors get off the hook. BSU students get off the hook (Well, the university won't reduce their student fees, just use them for something else, but ...) Do you guys want our new nickname to be the "Little Boilers" or the "Little Hoosiers." Maybe the "Little Domers" although I think ND would look for another catholic partner.

These are guys presumably not on 2 deeps. They would get 1st or 2nd team reps in practice AND many more meaningful reps on game day. That's good for the player and helps coaches evaluate the player. Experience for the player and proven performance when something is on the line a plus.

If you're at Alabama and getting 4 and 5 star recruits all the time, they're not wasting their time evaluating walk ons.
