If you're at Alabama and getting 4 and 5 star recruits all the time, they're not wasting their time evaluating walk ons. Two things:
Why are they signing 30 walk-ons with big NIL?
FB has always rewarded coaches using red shirt and player development to produce upper class players from players not quite ready for prime time.

Sure, but they're not gonna pay BSU for that. They might pay the player on something like a futures contract, with rights to him after his sophomore year. I could see that.

I’ll go back to what I’ve said in the past: follow the Ivy League model. No scholarships. Play the game for the game’s sake. If we played like schools, I’d go - to enjoy the game for game’s sake. Watching college students playing the game, just to be playing the game.sick of the bull sh** that we are now seeing. Want to just watch the game for the fun of rooting for someone who is playing the game for Ole Ball! Show some loyalty to the school that you will hopefully provide you with your degree. I’m proud to say I have my degree from Ball State. Everyone who knows anything about me knows I have my degree from Ball State. I’m loyal to the University. Campus is my a peace place, love being on campus. Don’t need the drama that we’re seeing in college sports. Will enjoy watching the ladies play tonight..

Big boys are going full pro. FBS may be 60-70 schools?
After this settles out, who knows how long,
FCS will expand. Limited NIL? Maybe get occasional money games?
But I think D3 will also have 2 divisions, by size, and maybe allow that.

All I know is MAC level schools had better be planning for life post the coming P5 split into its own entity. I’m not even sure being a student will be much of a requirement at that level.

Most P5s and top G5s are already doing this. These FB players are not required to go to class (everything online), tutors doing your homework, and takes your tests. It is a joke! For these kids that are "NFL or bust" mindset, they better get ready to life after football. It ends quickly and abruptly.

Not sure how much Euro teams pay or how much non-NFL/NBA caliber players get from NIL. Statistically, 1.6% will make it to NFL and 1.2% will make it to NBA. That is certainly much better than a lottery ticket. I would keep rolling the dice 🎲 instead of concentrating on a mediocre degree.

That is certainly much better than a lottery ticket. I would keep rolling the dice 🎲 instead of concentrating on a mediocre degree. Looks to me like a good reason to concentrate on a degree. Mediocre degree has lifetime value, but I agree not a bad one or one unfinished. For most prospects, the odds aren't close to 1%, even good ones. That 1%+ chance is heavily skewed to VERY good prospects. Long before the portal athletes have been ignoring school. And it has hurt the majority of them. Go down scale a bit from the elite, and this portal roulette is not going to help much with pro prospects, it's about money now, though. That's small money compared to value of a degree in most cases. Take the money now, sure, and also. get the degree. There's the win. Hey. Even getting to the pros, those careers can be awfully short. A few million dollars doesn't go as far as it once did!

“After loss in court, the NCAA is pausing investigations into third-party NIL deals with athletes. Following another courtroom loss, the NCAA has halted investigations into booster-backed collectives or other third parties making name, image and likeness compensation deals with Division I athletes.”

The schools could stop it. All they have to do is drop their programs.
Let all those third-party NIL donors create their own professional leagues, build facilities, hire coaches, trainers, support staff and officials, do their own marketing, create new fanbases.
Without the university structure that exists and the natural fanbases that come along with it, the NIL market is nothing. Lots of folks probably want to provide funding for the Kentucky Wildcats. Probably not too many are interested in funding the Lexington Distillers semi-pro team.
It still must be a pretty sweet deal for the NCAA and the schools, or that would happen.

I was wondering where to send a donation for NIL. It seemed from posts on this board that we didn't have a clearcut location. I sent an email to AD Jeff Mitchell. Here is my email and his email response.

Rick, Thanks for the note. Yes, the website for the NIL foundation is out of date. I have mentioned this to their board and will do so again.
Our athletics leadership is not allowed to be involved in the governance of this foundation. But donations can still be made to the site, and student-athletes are benefitting from the foundation.
Happy to answer any questions you may have about it.

I went to this link (Feed the Bird Foundation) on the BSU sports website and checked it out. Seems that it hasn't been updated for a while; it showed athletes that have been gone for about a year. Is this the current location to make an NIL donation or is there another site?
Please advise. Thank you!
