The link below is for University of Louisville's NIL Fund, 502 Circle: 502circle.com/You will note their Athletic Director Josh Heird has a video explaining the importance of NIL funds for the athletic program. BSU's AD could certainly be involved in a similar capacity. New basketball coach Pat Kelsey has put out several social media videos soliciting support for 502 Circle. This fund has several full time employees whose salaries are picked up by donations. Worth a try. Notice a difference, Louisville's collective is much more active and the AD announcement was to support a new initiative by the collective. If our collective was more active I have no doubt the AD would do the same thing. Their group has an actual staff, not a mostly informal group like ours. The coach and AD can't create or organize NIL. We recognize they can’t be involved in the administration of the fund but they can promote it!!

If I am Lewis, I am calling Mr. Papa John’s and begging him for support. I realize there is a stigma with the guy, but he is still loaded and graduated from Ball State. I know this is a pipe dream, but the dude has the resources and might want to launder his money for the good. The whole cancel culture thing has generally disappeared.. It might get a blip on social media but I dont think it would be a huge deal anymore

The coach and AD can't create or organize NIL. We recognize they can’t be involved in the administration of the fund but the can promote it!! Sure. But you do need organization and effort to administer the effort with the collective. Louisville has a scale of operation of the collective that makes a difference. And, their athletic fund raising is much larger scale where the AD has an audience he can influence, more bang for the buck. That AD at UL had a campaign to announce. Worth a try by the AD to do more than we've seen, probably a necessity even where our track record fund raising isn't great. Every little bit helps. But the collective to have much impact, needs staff and for a major fund raising effort there is a chicken and egg problem. Not just having a large number of potential donors, which I doubt exists. It takes money to raise money, especially if it's a grass roots campaign. A few volunteers has a big challenge. Then, if you have success, you can't just take a roll of $100's to the game and pass it out. I'm not criticizing what they've done or not done, just saying Louisville is in a different league in NIL.

But it seems the BSU athletics department is still in the phase of holding its nose and hoping this whole stinky, yucky NIL thing just goes away. BSU will eventually get on board once the conventional wisdom becomes thoroughly established. Hopefully Lewis is sharp enough and win-hungry enough to make his own efforts despite the uselessness of the AD.

I doubt John wants anything to do with BSU. BSU ditched him, and his previous donations, rather quick.

He did attend a MBB game a few years ago with Whitlock who, although not near the dollars of John, is another person I'd be contacting for help.

Jason is more of a football guy and Papa John got woked off campus. Not saying he shouldn't try but if Schnatter showed any inkling of wanting to donate again then the Foundation wolves would shove Lewis aside and take it themselves. In my opinion, that's why we don't actively promote our collective because Foundation and Athletics want the donations for their agenda. Anyone with serious coin and any connection to BSU is already on someones prospect list. Its going to take an angel with deep pockets and a serious sell job by Mike to make this work. I think he's largely on his own.

What does Lewis have to lose? He is already fed up with the University. I would be camping outside of Schnatter’s home. What a great way to give the University the middle finger by securing a major NIL gift from John. I would also plead with Jason to help him with a NIL campaign. Raising money for something you love and compassionate about is not difficult. If any one can do it, I would put my money on Lewis. Surely he is aware of Schnatter?
