I realize some kids are getting big money, but for most you gotta wonder how much they'll get once the agent takes his cut and the government takes its cut and who know how many other hands are dipping into that pie. Maybe the best advice for a kid would be that you still want to go to a place where you can still get an education and play for a coach you like who can make you better. That would be too sensible for this nutty NIL era...

Seems very quiet…we just sitting this one out before Lewis bounces to a P5 assistant job? .....and, 8 days later, it appears Michael Lewis is staying

looking back at his mysterious comments from that one post game, I now wonder if that had to do with the AD's extreme distaste for NIL, and his focus on protecting athletes from NIL rather than working to help maximize NIL.

Sherm, you saying this coupled with a couple more recent things Ive heard makes me feel like your not far off. I dont have any details on the more recent happenings but Im trying to use my CSI powers to paint the picture

I think most people have an extreme distaste for NIL. Only the people who are profiting from it seem to like it.

CBS cancelled CSI, we can get a lot of page views with that angle from disgruntled viewers. Good bet the AD was trying to rein in Lewis contacting donors to solicit NIL. Lewis is a pretty direct guy who I could see push the envelope on a conservative AD policy, willing to ask for forgiveness rather than cautiously ask permission. Especially if he had a player in need, which there is some reason to think was true.

How cool would it be to have an AD that's a creative, proactive asset for recruiting talent?
Some schools do.

I think most people have an extreme distaste for NIL. Only the people who are profiting from it seem to like it. Say what you want about NIL, but it's less hypocritical than the previous situation where higher level players were being paid through shoe companies, allowing certain coaches to take a holier-than-thou stance while benefiting greatly from Nike/Adidas money (cough Coach K cough). Also coaches were getting paid millions, sometimes gazillions, or at least 6 figures, AND where jumping from school to school for their own career benefit when the opportunity presented itself while the players were getting much less money and were more constrained in changing programs. Meanwhile NCAA apparatchiks and administrators like Mitchell turned a blind eye. I think, all in all, NIL is more chaotic but less sleazy than what came before.

The abrupt departure of Basheer right after he indicated he was stoked to have sparks back raises some questions. Was it related to NIL? Was he denied it? From what I could tell he and Lewis had a good relationship and with him appearing to be excited about Sparks, something had to have happened to trigger his sudden defection.

To be fair, we could have called you an idiot for dozens of other legitimate reasons so it's probably a wash.
