I think $600 or $800 a year (for all sports) for a family that is paying $30,000+ a year, already, is worth it. If families were paying $10-15K per year, which is what public institutions should be charging, I’d get it.

The average cost per student: Total Cost (Approximate Annual Averages): - Public, In-State: $22,000–$25,000. - Public, Out-of-State: $39,000–$42,000. Given football’s cultural draw, the very low cost/student/year, and BSU’s largest athletics revenue generator, I cannot imagine this even being talked about. Wow. Good day. I certainly believe in the value of higher education, but the costs are very high. Higher than the past. Students today can't just work a part time job and summers and pay for school. After considering scholarships, to get to the out of pocket costs, students increasingly have to borrow to meet the inflation.
State support for higher education is down over time, student burden for tuition, room and board, books, fees, are up. Scholarships are not matching inflation of overall expense. This should focus on how "low" student fee expense per student is important. And on how fees are spent.

Just a note, Whenever major athletic teams, such as football and basketball, win, enrollment jumps. There are numerous examples to attest to that.
I hope that isn't lost in the conversation.

You all would be shocked if you knew just how little revenue football generates at BSU, especially relative to expenses.

They are very short term and not sustained over time. Those years without notable extraordinary success add up.

Is it time to rethink corporate sponsorship for the stadium? I.e going back to the papa johns rumors.. forgive my ignorance on this question though.. this was before my time and I do not the ins and outs Papa John’s offered to build a new stadium, however it would need to be called Papa John’s Stadium. Our policy at the time was that facilities would not be named after a person/business. Thus Papa John’s Stadium at the University of Louisville! Sad, but another Ball State f-up!

Check out Tony Annese coach at Ferris State for job. Only draw back is he is 61 but I will take him for 5 years & find someone else then. He has won every where he coached high school, JC , & D 2. Our coaches salary should look good to him & his staff. The weather even would look good.

Thought Ball State burned the bridge with Papa John over his racial language problem he had. I think it was about this time that R.T. was suing the University over race stuff. Would liked to have seen BSU take a neutral position concerning Papa and let the corporation take care of the problem which they did. But Louisville had no problem accepting the donation. Short sited BSU did not want commercial sponsorship until they did. Have you tried Manscape yet?

The radical language issue came several years after Papa John’s stadium was built and before the offer to build one for Ball U. There is a real question about the context of what he said. Our Ball State alum and national figure, who is a minority doesn’t accept the rap that was placed on him. Supposedly, it was during a staff training session and he said you shouldn’t say things like this… In today’s ultra sensitive world you can’t say anything for any reason. But, I wasn’t there and only have information second hand.

You should just look at it then. I have. Closely. FB is massively more deficit per student athlete. I got it - FB loses $. That was not my point - some sports are essential with FB being one. Other sports are not essential. Odd that an essential sport would have such trouble attracting anyone to the games.

I hear its an extra million per year.. Sounds like a ton of money to me but is it really when it comes to a football team It would be meaningful primarily in an NIL context…beyond that it’s not a lot at all. Just saw Cignetti's new contract. His salary and buyout increase.
I also noticed it has an 11 mil pool for on field assistants.
We're not B10 of course, but that kind of assistant salary at top schools puts tremendous pressure on G5 to try to retain good coaches and assistants. Market price pressure.

We can forget about Haines. Iu can pay him more than our entire assistants/support staff budget.
