His Euro ball future is unchanged. Never had NBA hopes without somehow changing his game from pure post player. You couldn't be more wrong. I wouldnt put anything past him. He’s been pushing the boundaries of wrongness his entire life.

He's on a team playing at the highest level of college basketball, getting a good degree, making some nice $$ and occasionally playing when Ware is hurt. There are worse gigs. Now that I'm 40 years removed from my college experience, i remember the track and cross country meets I got to participate in while at BSU with fond memories. Would I cherish them as much if I had just been watching them from the sidelines; watching someone else run instead of me? I can't imagine I would. That's exactly what Sparks is doing now. He's got a courtside seat like a high paying alum or IU cheerleader. In 40 years, the few dollars in his bank account now might not be worth the memories that could have been. I also can’t believe he doesnt have the same sensibilities as a 60 year old. Perhaps he’s comfortable with it not being about him? Maybe he finds satisfaction with his role on the team? It may just be that he’d rather help a power conference team compete at the highest level than flounder with us at the bottom of the MAC. He might also be in a better position to weigh his preferences than we are.

Is there any precedent in this series for a team getting off to a commanding lead and blowing it in the 2nd half? I could ho for that right now…

My prediction is Ohio by 8. If that was your prediction for 2 minutes into the game. Excellent work.

Well they haven't been to the NCAA tourney once in the last 10 months, so maybe they are letting their expectations slip. Yeah, but no other MAC school has either, so that’s something we’re all dealing with.

Of course, it's the least surprising thing in the world that BSU basketball is tied for 8th in the MAC at the end of January. What is surprising is who we are tied with...Kent. What's going on over there? They must not be demanding more from their coach.

Wasn’t it yesterday you asked whether Mearn’s salary was sufficient to demand that he sit through dreg vs dreg basketball? But you think sitting through dreg vs. dreg football is so desirable that they’re putting their own selfish whims first to keep it? Makes perfect sense… The Mearns thing was a joke about how low the level is in some of these MAC games we play. Regardless of the quality of the basketball, I'm sure he enjoys the butt kissing he gets at games. Of course it was a joke, but the point remains that if we’re joking about the games being so abysmal that attending them can be construed as punishment, isn’t it pretty absurd to suggest receiving a butt kissing while attending them is the reason to spend $10 million (assuming you are correct) per year on it? There is no cheaper way for a university administrator to get a sufficient butt kissing?

"We may nonetheless agree on one thing. You, I and Sherm. The administration has to value intangibles highly to keep spending big bucks on MAC FB." Actually I don't agree. Rather I think BSU and MAC conference administrators actions are primarily influenced by how things affect them personally. Football games provide them an opportunity to go and play the big shot. On the other hand, changing the current status quo would get them a lot of grief from a group that is vocal and has access to them. I don't think they particularly care to attempt to measure the "intangibles". In fact they would rather not. They are content to use "intangibles" as a excuse to not do anything that would cause them troubles personally. I agree that they have to CLAIM to value intangibles highly for football to make any sense at all. Wasn’t it yesterday you asked whether Mearn’s salary was sufficient to demand that he sit through dreg vs dreg basketball? But you think sitting through dreg vs. dreg football is so desirable that they’re putting their own selfish whims first to keep it? Makes perfect sense…

That's not such a good measure if, as the University will say, the value is not the show itself. They say it's intangible good will, promotion and branding, advertising, plus it's a necessary evil to give us the other MAC sports, which except for FB is the best conference for us. When folks start using words like "intangible" in their arguments, you know they don't have a foot to stand on. Don't take this as a defense of 00, because I'm sure he has no clue what he's talking about. But Ball State's primary purpose is to provide an intangible. So when talking about value propositions in the educational context, I think you should be open to discussions about intangibles.
