If his effort was bad, then he didn't deserve the carries especially with very capable RB's behind him. I know for a fact that the coaches were always very high on Gilbert throughout his time at BSU.

So far transferring for Justin Gibbs and Verenzo holmes has been a bad decision.. Nothing for them yet

They might need to look at a lower level

I am happy for both Riley Neal and James Gilbert. Frankly, Gilbert did not look like the same back this year as he did earlier in his career. I don't know if that is from lack of effort or if he has just been physically beat up over the years and just not capable of bringing it like he did earlier. And Neal's physical gifts are undeniable. However, I can't be the only poster how has a little less hair because of Neal's tendency to under throw wide open receivers on deep routes.
If both Gilbert and Neal have knock out years in 2019, then I think we know where the problem lies. However, if both players fail to make a meaningful impact at their new schools, that also gives you an idea that the coaching staff was not incorrect to kind of move on.

Doubt we will be able to tell much. Neal will be surrounded by better players.
Gilbert was so disappointing just regression back to the mean expected normal performance will mean he does better.
Both a year older and wiser they should improve after all.

It all depends on how they use Riley if they want him to be a pocket passer you are going to see the same things,, If they change the offense where is firt option is to run then he will have a great year

Are you implying that Riley is likely to be the starting quarterback?

Well he is talented and the fast big wideout we need. He needs to learn to block and run routes correctly. If he can and er have a qb step up he fills a giant need. Riley miller is a good receiver but not really a guy you want as your number 1 guy.. In a perfect world You want Newton at 1 yo heinz at two, Hall in the slot and Miller at the three.. Miller with his sure hands should be counted on as the third down guy

If Vanderbilt uses a run first option offense for Neal he won't last halfway into the SEC season. Those defenses will kill him.

If they try and use a pass heavy offense Riley your going to get the same kind of play from him you got here.. Unless our o line play was just so bad that Riley never had a chance to get through projections.. That might have been a really real scenario
