General...I certainly agree that we could use another 6'9-6'11 stud but to say we were pounded by Kent and Akron is just not what the facts would suggest...I would suggest that we were competitive in both games.
I also believe we will be another notch up the competitive charts next year Top 100 given Teague, Persons, and another year of experience from our Soph not counting House as a Senior

Both Kent and Akron had their way with us inside. Their bigs were bigger and better athletes. They pounded us.

Well then he had better either sign a quality big kid this spring, or else start spending 6 hours a day fixing whatever Teague's deficiencies are. Because, as it stands now, Kent, Akron and such teams will continue to pound us, and we'll only have a chance to beat them when a lot of other things go just right simultaneously.
He should do both... We are now getting close enough to gripe about losing to the best teams instead of worrying about whether we would ever win a game. And worst case next year where we have lots of good players on the roster we are that one player away from a championship. Not all that far away. Akron had to play a very good game to beat us in a game where we were a long way from our best. We closed the game to the point that we had 3 possessions to tie it up. We can improve at every other position by next season, making the margin even closer. Adding a quality big man would put us very near or at the top of the league. Something a little less, just replacing Wells with a little better player, might be enough. Bo has been very good for us, and Wells has actually contributed. Both together add up to a pretty decent MAC player. Teague plus a relatively modest signing can replace them, and be better, and we would be very close. Any really good signing and the kid's heart will burst. I hate suffering casualties to the fan base, but come to think of it, I am not sure how many of us would survive the shock of a really good season.

We certainly lost both and likely would have lost by more at their place but I think we lost one by 6 and another by like 10. We agree essentially but where I come from that's hardly a pounding that's all

And who here didn't think we wouldn't get pounded inside? That's not the point for this years team. Still exceeding expectations. Question is how do we narrow that gap.

Exceeded expectations with the 320 worst schedule in College basketball? Boy the bar has been set high. You guys have been smoking too much dope.

U are on General...we finish next year in the top 100! What's the wager?
Cardfan we got beat inside but we did not take a pounding?
Don't know your definition but I would say a pounding is 20 or more!!

I don't understand what SOS has to do with the expectations people had one way or the other. To have a really high bar set in terms of expectations of any kind this year would mean somebody was smoking too much dope. Now, I don't know what the kid smokes, but he only recently lost touch with reality in his predictions, so his preseason optimism which seemed pretty far out there but are being met and significantly exceeded. The others who were the pessimists are the ones who had the low expectations. Perhaps some side effect of a high dose of antidepressant after many dark winters in the Arena.

Progress in my book is getting a bye in the MAC tournament and beating Akron and Kent at home. Our loss margins to Kent and Akron should be what we would expect on the road but not at home. What I see is an average MAC team with a coach that has not shown me he can recruit with the upper teams in the conference. We do not have a point guard which should be the easiest position to fill and we severely lack inside depth with 2 interior post players graduating with nothing on the horizon with the spring signing period closing in. Call me a pessimist if you want but I have a hard time getting excited about beating teams that are currently in the bottom 80% in the country. I love my University and will root for this program until I am dead and buried but we still have a ways to go before I am happy.

If we go from losing 17 in a row, and having the clearly worst team in the MAC last year to winning 18 or 19 games this year and get into the middle of the pack, and that is not progress in your book, maybe you need to check Webster's and proof read that book. Can't think of anyone here who doesn't share the same long term idea about what a successful program would be expected to do, we all want a better than average team. However. The standard you set would put us, this year, in the top 4 teams in the conference. We are going toward a goal. That is what progress means, not that we are there already.
