The Colts as an organization has changed. The Polian era was marked by a smart but eccentric billionaire who reluctantly turned over the reins and control to the micromanaging genius of Bill Polian. He and Manning changed the franchise and were able to keep looney Irsay insulated from infecting the body. Today, looney drug-addled Irsay is no longer insulated and his bad leadership and decision-making have done what it would do to any business. From Grigson to Pagano to the host of bad draft picks and wasted first-rounders and his nonsensical rambling unintelligible commentaries, Irsay is the quintessential crazy owner who should not be running the franchise but simply funding it. Luck has been battered and bludgeoned into injuries and gun shy decisions on field. They've ruined him. I believe the future will be brighter when he sells the franchise or his kids take over. Irsay needs rehab and retirement in Florida.

Unfortunately, won't happen. Colts are only 1/3 of the way down a long spiral.

All depends on crazy Irsay's letting somebody else make those decisions.

RC is spot on. Since booting polian, irsay has been trying to prove it's his team. Every drug addled move has been to show Polian was not the man and it has blown up in Irsay's face. He's even basically spit on Manning. The man has no idea what he's doing or why. The end result is a destroyed QB in Luck and a joke of a coaching staff. This thing could take years to fix, if it can be fixed. But as long as Jimmy is making the decisions.....

Well, Jimmy was QUITE the businessman before concentrating on his Colt ownership.
Oh....wait a minute. I think I'm in error.

Jim doesn't run the team anymore. Hasn't for a few years now. He still is the face of ownership, but his daughters have largely taken over the operation.
Therein lies the problem.

I don't know about that. They are certainly more involved, but Jimmy is the one who makes THE decisions in terms of coaches and GMs.

Yeah, they aren't doing bad things on the business side. Well, except having a really shitty product.
But these NFL franchises are part of a big show and are money machines. Indy will support them this year. Another year of mismanagement on the field could put a dent in that, though.

He's not in the best health, physically or mentally. Spend a few minutes talking with him and it's obvious he's not in charge anymore.

Oh, he's a trainwreck, no doubt, as is the franchise now, but when it comes down to hiring the head coach and management everyone who has an inside look says it's still him. Some even saying he wouldn't even let Ballard pick the next HC. Jimbo, not his daughters met with Gruden and others after last season.
It would be best if Irsay didn't speak publically but the dude just can't help himself.

A father, flawed by vice and past indiscretion, being protected most of his life from consequences, not aware of having a big ego problem and who is trying to make decisions he isn't capable of, with daughter and staff surrounding him, telling him to avoid public statements?
Nah, that can never happen with powerful people who have made a fortune.

Peyton Manning will be in charge soon and order will be restored a la The Denver Broncos and Elway. At least that's my hunch.
