I still think Persons should be the 2 despite his limitations as a defender. We’ve not had anyone else capable of being an effective PG so he’s the guy there, but with Ish showing he can hold his own now it seems reasonable to let him run the point and free up Persons to move without the ball, expend less energy handling the ball, etc. I’d like to see whit give that a shot from the start to see what happens. It’s not like we’ve been getting off to great starts and don’t want to mess with that.... Kiapway and Tyler just haven’t shown any consistent production at the shooting guard spot, so try Persons there. Can’t hurt.

So, our best recruiting coach in recent history is not recruiting effectively?
That's very interesting.
Maybe recruiting in the MAC is the issue? Maybe it's impossible to get good, solid players to play in this league? Are power conferences now using players in larger rotations (8-9 vs. 6-7) which prevents some of the players that used to fall to the MAC from choosing not to go to lower conferences?
It's not like the MAC champion every year is burning up the tournaments or sending players to the NBA.

It's not like the MAC champion every year is burning up the tournaments or sending players to the NBA. We have good solid players. What we don’t have is the alpha dog difference-makers. We also have whiffed on dominant interior players or this coach has decided it doesn’t fit his style. Also not sure 🤔 we know what to do sometimes when teams start to dominate us ala the Buffalo blowout. Our staff was deer in the headlights when that game started to turn ugly.

In game adjustments when teams do what ub and wmu do to us are indeed lacking. We don’t seem to know what to do or how to respond. We just keep doing the same stuff and once the game is out of hand there’s no getting it back.

I will admit that I don't follow the recruiting circles very closely; but is there that many 6-10 240lb forwards that we are losing the recruiting battles on against other mid-majors? It seems like a lot of the MAC finds their big men in the JUCOs and we don't appear to mine the JUCOS for talent (understandably, JUCO players come with their positives and negatives).

The only in-game adjustment we seem to make when we need to rally is to turn Teague's 3-point light even greener.

That's one of the biggest misconceptions in recruiting. People for some reason believe there are a bunch of 6'9" physically mature JUCO guys going to the mid-majors every year. Those guys are harder to get than quality bigs straight from High School. The vast majority are swallowed-up long before even considering a MAC program. It's not just interior players Whitford has difficulty recruiting, however if you want a 6'5" to 6'7" average ball handler who can't shoot or defend particularly well , Whits your guy.

When BSU assesses JUCO players, the first question we ask them is "What is a JUCO?" We lose 93% of them after the first question.

I'm assuming Colonel Sandy will invite us all to a Town Hall meeting to discuss this in an open forum at a later date?

There are some upper mid major and major programs that go a bit outside the norm and go for overseas players from Africa, and Europe that seem to come in and really contribute!
I wish we would consider going outside the box...

I guess I'm one of the few (only one?) that is totally on board with recruiting Indiana.

Recruiting Indiana is good. But we aren’t getting the athletes/playmakers we need so we ought to branch out a little bit.
