The S&c guy is seen as a problem by people not named Whitford. Whit isn’t big on strength training. Look at the bodies and conditioning of our opponents and the difference is obvious. The s&c guy for basketball was brought in by Ronny.....

Don't get me started on our strength and conditioning guy. The physical growth of our guys is awful. The last guys who really transformed themselves were Juwan Scaife and Jarrod Jones. Moses I guess changed his body pretty dramatically from his senior year in high school to when he came in as a freshman but I think that was him, not our staff. I agree I think all of our guys look soft in comparison to some of the other teams we play. I get some of it is genetic but we don't seem to progress much in four years with our guys at least from the eye test. I would also add the Walton and Hazen both look more cut than our players. Is that by accident or because they were both in a high-level program prior to coming here? I have heard from multiple people our basketball weight person is not good

Yeah that is pretty common knowledge. And who knows maybe this is all anecdotal. Conditioning is probably most important and we tend to run inferior opponents out of gas. And for all I know maybe our guys are beasts in the weight room and push a lot of iron. All I know is what I see.

In fairness to the title of the thread which is not just what is wrong but how do we fix it, I agree with several posters on some of their suggestions including:
1.) Look outside the friendly confines of the Hoosier state in recruitment. 2.) Focus on player development including strength and conditioning. 3.) Win a difference-maker, at least one, in a living room somewhere. 4.) Balance our roster with some depth at the 4 & 5 positions so we don't have to shuffle guys out of position so much. 5.) Recruit more tweeners. Ok just kidding on that one. 6.) Look overseas for some bigs.
I will add a few things from a positive perspective. One thing that sometimes gets lost in recruiting is finding kids who are a good "fit" for your program. I'm talking less about physical skills or talent or style of play versus character and personality. I'm sure some will point out our often-suspended senior and our recently-suspended transfer and their troubles, but overall we have done a pretty good job of getting good players and good people. At the end of the day, what the fans expect are wins and banners. That is the reality of D-1 athletics. But the quality of student-athletes we bring in is equally important and I believe we've done that. Additionally, I've been a critic, harsh at times, of Coach Whitford. He's earned much of that with a personality and style that at times appears aloof and impersonal. He also hasn't exactly embraced Muncie and vice versa. But, I've come to appreciate something about him through the Zach Hollywood tragedy and just through observation; he cares immensely about his players as people. I also think Zach's loss has provided him some introspection on how he interacts with people and how it is perceived and perhaps he could do better in this department. And I think he is doing better.
OK sorry for the rambling. On to CMU tomorrow!

I will also add I think we are close but I do not think we can get there(championship level) with what we have now.

we have done a pretty good job of getting good players and good people. With two of eleven, of our active roster scholarship players, placed on suspension, and one of next years transfers kicked off the team at a different program, I am not sure I would call this a "pretty good job". In fact I would label this the biggest debacle of the season and a problem area moving forward.

Debacle is a stretch. Walker's suspension and more importantly the allegations behind it are pretty dark. If it's true then that's a character miss for sure. Tyler's "issues" if accurate with what they've been rumored is selfish and dumb but I can tell you he's still a pretty good kid. I have young adult kids and like it or not they sometimes make bad decisions.
Overall, I believe we have good kids in the program and have had during Whitford's five-year tenure. That's not conjecture from behind a keyboard either.

I guess I'm not sure what your inference is. By majority you make it sound like 7 of our 13 scholarships are good and the other 6 are marginal. Other than the issues Tyler has had what am I missing? I'm pretty close to the program but maybe my memory is fading. Other than what I've mentioned, have we had repeated suspensions and discipline issues I'm not aware of? What's our history of lax penalties?

There have been a couple other issues as well, Zavier Turner was one them, I don't remember the name of the other guy. You are seriously asking about our history of lax penalties after Tyler's multiple suspensions.

You are seriously asking about our history of lax penalties after Tyler's multiple suspensions. Ok, so we got Turner who had attitude issues and he left because we basically benched him and made him irrelevant. Then one other guy who you can't remember. And then Tyler, who we've already acknowledged has made some dumb decisions and they have cost him dearly but he hasn't murdered anyone last time I checked. So that qualifies as a "debacle" and a "problem area" going forward? You are grasping at straws and sorely lacking in facts. How many of our former or current players have you met personally? I've just come to realize that your postings and style are strangely reminiscent of a former board devotee who posted under several different aliases.

If we are just talking whitford I dont think we count anything turner did. I also do not think we can really blame Whit for walker. As far as I know Walker never did anything else during his time here. What he ended up doing is inexcusable but thats on him not Whit. I do think he was probably too easy on Tyler but like others have said its pot. Most of our athletics and a good amount of normal student body smoke pot.. Tyler is just dumb about it and keeps getting caught
We might be able to count Turner did whit recruit him
