no, that would have been a 10?? Lol Remember I put 10 as the 89-90 team. I doubt too many MAC schools ever reach a 10. Yeah that’s my bad, I misread it

Why is this twit, jock sniffing, water boy, Wisconsin bb manager are head basketball coach? Can't fire him...BULLS%$#. Wake up athletic department and read this... 5 year winning percentage 40%A good basketball coach improves the team as the year goes on....7-19 w/L record in 5 years in last 5 conference games... 36%. This dipshit doesn't even know how to teach a zone defense. Anyone see the 30 on 30 espn on NC State. Valvano switches to a triangle and two against Virginia who was #1 (two on Ralph Sampson) at halftime and wins the game. Huh what a crazy idea...coaching. I like our young talent, but we are going nowhere with a twit, waterboy manager as our coach. This is the sound of my 5 figure check that was headed to the athletic department if we showed this year being ripped apart! Not with this idiot as our coach. I may void it and send it to make a point..torn in half. I am fed up with this BS! They won't fire him only because his 4 year buyout would be around $1 million plus Mark Sandy wouldn't have the guts even if the buyout was half that to pull the trigger when he was the one who extended him twice. Hopefully a new AD sides with the fans and as easily isn't satisfied as Colonel Sandy.

I like that. The kid has some confidence. Good! Get out there and knock people around, son! I like the confidence but not sure he can really play. Thing is if he can come in and rebound, Dunk it when he is open and maybe just maybe put the opposing c/pf on his ass once a game. That will help alot

I'm ready for the grand experiment. If the new AD does this he'll be a genius.
Trading Coaches: The TV show
MUNCIE — Ball State University has announced that, starting immediately, men's basketball coach James Whitford and women's basketball coach Brady Sallee will trade jobs beginning with preparations for the 2018-19 seasons. Each head coach will have one assistant of their choice make the switch with them, but the rest of the coaching staffs will remain with their current teams. The university's Sports Link digital production students will produce a weekly 30-minute segment chronicling the change, which will be sold to ESPN in a vain attempt to lessen the negative financial impact resulting from the university's recently woeful athletic programs.

In the very few minutes he played in November Huggins surprised me. There is no question in my mind that Whitford's group of coaches have done a good job (yes I said good job) developing our bigs. Remember Calhoun and House when they started. Some of you may have repressed that memory. You look at Teague, Moses, and Mallers and they aren't the physical specimens that many of us would like to see dominating the paint, but they have improved greatly. Trey leveled off this year, but you've got to give the kid a pass. Physically he started the season banged up. What he went through in late summer, I really don't want to try to imagine how that might have affected me mentally and emotionally. I'm sure he still needs our prayers. I can't imagine we'll see the degree of improvement in Huggins we saw in Kyle Mallers, but if we do he will contribute. I think we have a better chance of seeing significant improvement in the play of Zach Gunn. A season of sitting the bench as a redshirt isn't the same as a season of meaningful playing time. They all need to hit the weight room.
The progress he has made with these players makes the "Whitford can't recruit bigs" argument illogical to me. I think he could if he wanted to. I don't think he wants to. Sadly I do feel Whitford's program leveling off. His ideology may have taken us as far as it can. Billy Taylor brought us out of the cellar, but when he reached the point where his ideology had taken us as far as it could he refused to adapt and change as a coach to keep us moving up. As a result we dropped like a rock back to the cellar. Maybe to a lower point than where Ronnie Thompson left us. I believe Whitford is at that crossroad where he needs to take a serious evaluation of how he can keep this program moving up and make changes to do so. If he doesn't we will eventually suffer through another significant drop. Everyone has it in them to improve. Some people are just to lazy or pig headed to try.

I think you overrate the MAC if a team gets an NCAA win it is now a 10. I think the present MAC will wait a long time to see a team win 2 in the NCAA mens tourney.

UJ, excellent. Your point that whit just doesn’t want to recruit bigs is how I feel as well. For whatever reason he doesn’t appear to want a strong, physical presence down low. He thinks he can with softer, skilled guys, and so far that hasn’t worked out for him. I agree with all of your post. It seems we can only go so far with how Whitford wants to play. Every year we’ve been up and down. Tall peaks and deep valleys. Always a roster issue. Seniors he suddenly buries. Bigs who don’t always come to play. Unable to make plays in the big moments in the big games. (No, beating Teams at the buzzer in December is not what the big big games truly are). The big moments are the last two minutes of the wmu game, the niu game, the Kent game. When it comes time to make our mark we can’t do it. The “culture” of the program is, well, a lack of mental and physical toughness and discipline in the big moment. When the coach is more interested in process than winning, that’s what you end up with.

Good points jim.
Huggins was not ready to contribute a lot. I'd rather play small and have players with skills on the floor and give him this year to develop. I am relatively pleased with him, he's a little like Mallers in his work ethic, effort on the floor, and being very active but like Mallers probably not enough bulk to play really well yet. And unlike Mallers, not nearly the skill level.
The year made a big difference, he's not a wasted scholarship. But since big guys usually take time, and since we have 4 pretty good players up front next year, he's probably another year from being a regular. If next year he can contribute as much as Mallers did as a Freshman, play a limited role, learn a lot, that will be a success.
