The Bradley coach has not completed the year yet, not sure we can compare fairly.
Also, this comparison of the Bradley and BSU job is not complete without mentioning that the last Bradley coach was making 700K with 200K outside income on top. That kind of salary potential allows you to hire an experienced D1 coach with a recruiting pipeline established. That coach was a good MAC coach hired away to Bradley. The money part ended poorly for him, I guess. (You might remember Geno Ford lost an appeal and had to pay back some 1.2 million of his Bradley money to Kent. But, he didn't expect that and it was still more money than we pay of course.)
Bradley is a pretty good coaching job. Comparing conferences, Bradley plays in a conference similar in basketball to the MAC, but without football at the same level. They also sell out exhibition games and produce more basketball revenue. In this case, Bradley does not even compete in MVC football, so without the drain of resources, the AD can probably find that kind of money easier than we can.
Assume this coach is better. Apart from money, he also came in with a fan base not completely burned out, and one that is highly supportive including much more community support.
Gee, why don't we get better basketball coaches, which school is easier to recruit for?

This was the whole theme of my "Patience Schmatience" thread. Good coaches rarely waste any time in demonstrating their quality. No doubt, Bradley will have its struggles this year, playing all that youth, but it seems like their guy may have already passed by Whitford, despite Whitford's two year head start. Which team can be expected to progress more over the course of the season? The team playing a bunch of freshman or the team mostly playing the same players as last year.
See above as to why we may have to hire coaches who might need a bit more time. And, I completely disagree which team is expected to progress more. Based on the fact the two teams are roughly equal in the first game, but only with us playing on the road and without one of our best players, I think we win a match up later in the season. Experience and physical maturity is on our side, and both are valuable in teams adjusting as a season progresses. I do not think they have more talent, or much more talent either. Our good players can play a lot better, so on the talent side this game did not answer that question. We can greatly improve over this performance. Wardle has a good record, has more D1 experience, and gets his players to play hard. It is quite possible he is a better coach, but he has a tougher job with so many freshmen. When he went to Green Bay he inherited a program in better shape than ours and did not have the really good record the first two years that he had the last 3 years.

Agree 00hmh...we could and should have played much better...I thought are guys were generally a bit tentative last night. Let's see how we bounce back at home!
We lost to Eastern at their place last season.

I don't know I have a great day and watched a ton a football. I think I enjoy football more when BSU is not playing. I am not as drunk I don't break things and I am just in a better mood overall

Thank god the chairs at worthen are bolted.

In fact most people in Muncie, including students ignore it even when we have game.

'As for screening for Sellers it's hard to set a screen for someone who is just standing there waiting to get the ball passed to him. Someone needs to show that kid film of Reggie Miller.'
Agreed to a point. If you are to run a motion offense (as allegedly implied by many here), then some sort of coaching of movement must occur. I have not seen much of that in Whit's tenure to date.
As for Teague? I think it was a miracle that he was admitted into the University. My guess he is struggling academically.
I have lost interest in a lot of things athletically at BSU, but what happened to Kipaway?

You want to see how to screen? Dig up some old video of Alford at IU. Move without the ball, screen, screen, screen, shoot an fifteen to eighteen footer. Used that strategy to a NCAA Championship. IU was far from the best that year but won the tournament. Of course for the motion to work you must have players that can hit those jump shots.

"I think it was a miracle that he was admitted into the University."
There were a lot of rumors about this kid, some had to do with academics and others were far more serious.

Yes there were alot of rumors but I still believe you have to take a chance with players of his supposed caliber.

I believe you are overestimating his talent. There is a reason he had only three scholarship offers. He was given a four star rating because several high majors viewed him as prospect early on, however none of those teams ever offered.
